Portland, Oreg. 97227 Filed Feb. 7, 1966, Ser. No. 525,427 1 Claim. (Cl. 312253) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A compartmented cabinet for storing toilet articles and capable of being vertically adjustably supported in a spacesaving position below and within an area defined by an elevated toilet facility such as a lavatory or the like.
This invention relates to improvements in storage cabinets particularly well adapted for use, though not restric tively, in bathrooms, powder rooms, and similar facilities, for example, in house trailers and other dwellings where storage space is at a premium.
The rear wall of the cabinet is provided with vertically spaced apertures and vertical spacer blocks having bolts extending therethrough and through pipe clamps for adjustably locking the cabinet in any selected vertically adjusted position relative to a drain pipe from the lavatory.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a cabinet of the character described which is of simple, efficient, inexpensive construction, pleasing in appearance and adapted for mounting in the space below a lavatory either mounted only along its rearward edge to the wall of a room, or one so mounted and also supported by floor-engaging legs at the two front corners thereof.
Another object of the invention is the provision of new and novel means adjustably and lockably attaching the cabinet to the drainpipe subjacent the lavatory at selective elevations and in such a manner that the cabinet can be swung from one side to the other about the drainpipe and locked in position rendering the interior of the cabinet accessible from either side of the lavatory as well as from the front thereof.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof and in which:
FIGURE 1 is a top plan view of a storage cabinet made in accordance with my invention.
FIGURE 2 is a front elevational view with the access door in an open position to reveal internal structure.
FIGURE 3 is a side elevational view of FIGURE 2, with a fragment broken away, illustrating the cabinet mounting means, and
FIGURES 4 and 5 are front and side elevational views, respectively, of a leg-supported lavatory showing the cabinet operatively mounted therebelow.
With continuing reference to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like parts, the cabinet as best illustrated in FIGURES 1 and 2 comprises a bottom wall 1, top wall 2, side walls 3-4, a rear wall 5 and a closure 6 hingedly attached as at 7 at its bottom edge to the bottom wall of the cabinet and provided at or near its top edge with a fingergrip 8.
As best illustrated in FIGS. 1-3, the cabinet is secured to the vertical section 10 of a drainpipe by bolts 11 extending through a first spacer block 12, and vertical rows of apertures 13 in the back wall 5. The outer ends of the bolts 3,357,764 Patented Dec. 12, 1967 lavatory 20, or swung to either side thereof, as illustrated by way of example in broken lines in FIGURE 5, and so locked by the wing nuts 15.
For stabilizing the cabinet in and during its swinging movement into any of the positions just mentioned, I provide a second spacer block 21 secured to the back wall 5 of the cabinet at any desired distance below the first spacer block 12. Both spacer blocks are recessed as at 23 and 24 on a radius of curvature matching the diameter of the pipe section 10 for firm rotational engagement therewith.
From the foregoing it will be readily apparent that the cabinet and its related parts are adapted for attachment to any accessible vertical pipe section of plumbing in any room of a dwelling and therefore not limited to a drainpipe of a lavatory either of the type shown supported by two front legs or one secured only along its rearward edge to the wall of the room.
While I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
In a plumbing fixture mounted adjacent the wall of a room and having a pipe extending vertically downward therefrom, the improvement comprising,
a compartmented storage cabinet of box-like formation including a vertical back wall,
means carried by said back wall rotatably and adjustably clamping said cabinet to said pipe in selected rotated and elevated positions relative to said plumbing fixture,
said means characterized by said cabinet back wall having two series of vertically aligned apertures therethrough,
a first horizontally disposed spacer block engaging said vertical pipe and having an opening therethrough at each end thereof,
a clamping member embracing said pipe,
fastening elements extending through said vertically aligned openings and securing said clamping member and said first spacer block to said back wall of the cabinet,
a second spacer block identical with the first spacer block, and
means securing the second spacer block to said cabinet back wall in spaced relation to said first spacer block to maintain said cabinet in parallel relation to said pipe in any of its said selected adjustable positions.
