(Cl. 248-309) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A soap dispenser for use in bathrooms and the like which can be used by a person having wet hands without subjecting him to the aggravation of having a bar of soap slip through his wet hands.

Summary of the invention My dispenser comprises a soap holder adapted to be detachably secured to a suitable receiving surface. The holder has a shaft with one end extending away from the surface. An elongated bar of soap has an axis of symmetry extending along the direction of elongation and a bore extending therethrough coincident with said axis. The shaft has a portion adjacent the said one end which extends through the bore whereby the bar is freely rotatable about the shaft.

A user with wet or dry hands can spin the soap around the shaft to soap his hands without dropping or holding the soap.

Referring now to FIGS. 2, 3 and 5, there is shown a hollow member 10 having an outwardly flaring end having along its periphery spaced apart holes through which screws 12 extend to secure this end to a suitable surface such as a vertical wall of a bathroom.

Member 10 has an opposite smaller end having a central opening extending perpendicular to the vertical wall and receiving in holding relationship one end 14 of a shaft 16. Shaft 16 has an opposite threaded end 18 and a region 20 intermediate these ends in which the shaft bends outward and downward.

I further provide an elongated bar of soap 24 having eight adjacent flat surfaces 25 disposed in the direction of elongation and concentrically oriented along the elongated axis of symmetry 22. Bar 24 has a central bore 26 aligned with the axis of symmetry and has tapered ends having opposite flat surfaces. A fixed collar 28 is secured to the shaft adjacent region 10 and disposed between this region and the threaded end.

The bar is rotatably disposed around the portion of the shaft intermediate the collar and end 18. Mounted in each end of the bore of the bar is a separate hollow bushing 30 having a bore alinged with the bore in the soap. Each bushing has the shape of a truncated cone with the outwardly flaring end adjacent the outer flat surface of the corresponding end of the bar. A bolt 32 threadedly engages end 18 to hold the bar of soap removably in place. A slanted .bore 34 can be drilled into bolt 32 and end 18 to removably receive a locking pin 35.

A circular plate 36 having a peripheral lip 38 can be used. This plate has a central hole 40 having a charnfered peripheral edge 42 and is adapted to snap on over member 10 to conceal the screws from view.

In use as shown in FIG. 1, my device is secured to a vertical wall 46 of a bathroom for example in the shower stall. A user 48 with dry or wet hands can spin the soap around the rod to soap his hands without dropping or holding the soap. The bushings prevent the ends of the soap from being chewed away or broken as the soap is rotated. Worn pieces of soap can be removed and a new bar substituted as required.

While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, my protection is to be limited only by the terms of the claims which follow.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A soap dispenser comprising a soap holder adapted to be detachably secured to a suitable receiving surface and including a shaft having one end extending away from said surface and an elongated bar of soap having an axis of symmetry extending along the direction of elongation and having a bore extending therethrough coincident with said axis, said shaft having a portion thereof adjacent said one end extending through said bore whereby said bar is freely rotatable about said shaft and first and second bushings, each bushing having a central bore, each bushing being disposed in a corresponding end of the bar with its bore being aligned with the bore of the soap bar, each bushing having an outwardly flaring portion adjacent the exterior surface of the corresponding end of the soap bar.

2. A dispenser as set forth in claim -1 wherein said one end of said shaft is threaded and further including securing means detachably secured to said one shaft end, one bushing being adjacent said threaded end of said shaft.

3. A dispenser as set forth in claim 2 wherein said holder includes a member securable to said surface and having an opening into which the other end of said shaft extends.

4. A dispenser as set forth in claim 3 wherein said shaft is bent in a region intermediate its ends, said shaft portion being disposed between said region and said threaded end.

5. A dispenser as set forth in claim 4 wherein said one threaded end of said shaft and said means have a common slanted bore and further including a locking pin removably insertable in said slanted bore.
