Description
Patented Aug. 26, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ROLL PAPER HOLDER.
David Vigo, Ann Arbor, Mich.
Application May 18, 1940, Serial No. 336,026
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a roll paper holder and more particularly to attachments therefor, and has for the primary object the provision of an attachment of this character which will greatly facilitate the application and removal of the roll paper roller or pin from its support or holder and which may be easily installed without alteration to the roller or pin and the holder and may be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as Will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in Which- Figure 1 is a front elevation illustrating a roll paper holder equipped with an attachment constructedV in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing one of Ithe finger pieces forming the attachment of the present invention.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a holder including a semi-cylindrical wall 6 and end walls 'I of integral construction. The wall 6 has the usual attaching flange 8 apertured to receive fasteners 9 for the mounting of the holder on a support. The end walls 'I have formed therein sockets [0 to receive the pintle shaped ends ll of a roller or pin I2.
The roller |2 includes telescopic sections forced apart by an expansion type spring |3 to retain the pintle shaped ends in the sockets |0 of the holder 5. This is a conventional construction of holder for the support of roll paper or the like, as shown at l4.
It has been found extremely difiicult to remove the roller or pin l2 from the sockets when it is desired to renew the roll of paper. Therefore, it is proposed to employ on the roller or pin the present invention which is in the form of nger pieces |5 applied to each end of the telescopic sections so that said sections may be moved relative to each other against the tension of the spring [3 and thereby remove the pintle shaped ends out of the sockets. The finger pieces are preferably welded on the pintles.
Each nger piece includes disc-like portions IB and ll. The disc-like portion IG has an aperture IB which will readily fit over the pintle shaped end of the roller l2 to abut the end of the major portion of the roller, as clearly shown in Figure 3. The portions IB and ll are joined by a shank [9 Which is offset to arrange the portion l'l laterally of the portion IS. The portions |1 project Well out of'the/holder 5 so that a person can grip the finger pieces and 'thereby shorten the roller l2 so that its pintle shaped ends can be readily inserted in and removed from the sockets IU of the holder. g
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, com- `bination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. k
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A quick applicable and removable cylindrical paper roll accommodation mandrel for use in a holder of the class described comprising telescopically connected companion sections, and actuating devices for the opposite outer ends of said sections, each device having means at one end secured to an outer end of a complemental section, a conveniently accessible operating fingergrip, and an intervening assembling and connecting shank secured to said means and the finger grip, said shank being laterally bent to outwardly offset the finger-grip and to dispose it in a plane outwardly of the adjacent end of the mandrel, Whereby to provide desired clearance for the finger-grip in relation to the cooperable roll of toilet paper.
DAVID VIGOI.
