ROLL HOLDER Filed Aug. 1, 1960 i INVENTOR 05224,? a2. MaEyf/VsO/V United States Patent Office 3,50,Z68 Patented Aug. 21, 1962 3,050,268 ROLL HOLDER Oscar W. Mortensen, 1420 Fulton Road, Santa Rosa, Calif. Filed Aug. 1, 1960, Ser. No. 46,810 1 Claim. (Cl. 242-5553) This invention relates to xtures and more particularly to bathroom xtures.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a tissue roll holder for use in bathrooms which is extremely attractive in appearance, and which is extremely simple and convenient to use when replacing rolls of tissue thereupon.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an easily operated tissue roll holder of the type described which is completely self contained, blends readily with the supporting wall structure, and which is extremely easy to use in crowded and congested areas.
All of the foregoing and still further obgfects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE l is a perspective view of a tissue roll holder device made in accordance with the present invention in actual use;
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional view of certain parts of the apparatus shown in FIG- URE l;
FIGURE 3 is an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional view taken along line 3 3 of FIGURE l;
FIGURE 4 is a flat plan view of the assembly shown in FIGURE 1 with the roll of toilet tissue removed; and
FIGURE 5 is a view similar to FIGURE 4, illustrating the manner in which the device is operated.
Referring now to the drawing, a tissue roll holder l@ made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a main housing 12 having a pair of depending sides 14 dening a forwardly opening cutout 16 within which a roll of toilet tissue 32 is accessible. A pair of fasteners 18 having loop portions 29 with guideways 22 therethrough, serve as supports for an inverted U-shaped bracket 24 constructed of a spring type material. The sides 26 of the Ibracket 24 have inwardly facing pintles 28 upon which a spindle 30 is rotatably supported in the position shown in FIGURE 4.
A push button 34 having a depending stem 35 is slidably carried by the housing 12 for reciprocating vertical movement. The innermost end of the plunger 36 is provided with a cutout 38 through which the central portion of the bracket 24 extends. A compression coil spring 40 acting between the plunger 34 and the housing 12 serves to yieldably resist downward movement of the plunger 34 to the position shown in FIGURE 5. However, in response to such downward movement of the push button 34 and plunger 36, the central portion of the bracket 24 is deformed to urge the arms 26 outwardly, as shown in FIGURE 5, thus opening the space -between the pintles 28 to allow for the insertion or removal of the spindle 30 and roll of paper 32 carried thereby.
It will thus be appreciated that it becomes a. simple matter to replace a roll of tissue simply by depressing the button 34 and gaining access tothe interior of the housing 16 in the manner described. Upon releasing the button 34, the springy bracket 24 will return to its normal position shown in FIGURE 4, thus rotatably supporting a roll of paper until replacement is required.
While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claim appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A tissue roll holder comprising, in combination, a housing having means for attachment to a stationary support, a spindle, a bracket within said housing rotatably supporting said spindle, and manually controlled actuating means for effecting the release of said spindle from said bracket, wherein said housing comprises a substantially hollow shell having a top wall and a pair of depending side walls dening a cutout providing access to the interior thereof, wherein said spindle comprises a shaft of uniform cross sectional conguration, said spindle extending substantially across said access opening deiined by said housing and rotatably supporting the roll of tissue therewithin, wherein said bracket comprises an inverted U-shaped member of spring-like construction having a pair of spaced apart arms depending from said top of said housing along the opposite sides thereof, and said spindle being rotatably supported upon the outermost free ends of said arms of said bracket, wherein said actuating means comprises a push button having a plunger slidably supported upon said top of said housing into engagement with a central portion of said bracket, and a pair of suspension type anchor bolts securing spaced apart portions of said bracket within the interior of said housing, said plunger acting upon a central portion of said bracket to deform said bracket temporarily to extend the free ends of said side arms thereof outwardly in opposite directions to facilitate the insertion and removal of said spindle therebetween.
