nnrrnn s'ra rnsrarrzn r airmen.
To all whom it may concern: ,Be it known that LCHlm'LEs Manonmsox, asuhject of the King of England, residing at Toronto, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Curtain-Poles and Shade-Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. I
This invention relates to that class of devices in which a shade roller and shade wound thereon is mounted in a casing from which said shade may be withdrawn or when not in use rolled up into the same; said casing serving as a curtain support.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved combined shade roller and shade, and curtain support constructed and arranged as hereinafterset forth and claimed. v
Referring to the accompanying drawings:-Figure 1 is a View i uperspective of a curtain poleand shade roller and shade constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarge'd'view in longitudinal section with parts broken away showing the invention. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view showing the means for supporting the device on a. window.
=1 is an enlarged detail view showing the shade roller and shade and the casing therefor in cross section.
In carrying out the inventiona curtain pole is provided, which also serves as a casing for a here shown preferably consists of a, tube 1, preferably formed of metal suchassheet metal, iron, or tin, and which may be enameled or painted or. otherwise suitably ornamented, and is of alength adapted to-extendfrom side to side of a window frame. Thetube or cylinder 1 is formed with a longitudinal opening 2. located preferably at the rear and toward the bottom of said tube for the shade to pass through. Theedges of the tube are rounded or bent'over as shown at 2 to form smooth edges so as not to cut the shade.
Fig.
shade rollerand shade, and as icrrannnsjiiianennrfin ca casses, on'riinio, canAna-J QOMQINtEDQURTAIN-POLE Ann sirens-sorrows Located at intervals from end to end of the tube 1 in the bottom side thereof are a number of curtain rings 3, each termed of a piece of wire with a head a and mounted in the tube or casing 1 by being passed through holes punched out inthe bottom side of the casing with a head 4 resting in said holeand the wire bent up to form the ring 3. By means of this invention the rings are prevented from being lost or moved out of place.
Mounted in the casing or tube 1 is a shade roller 6 having a pintle 'i' at each end which rests and is adapted to turn in a suitable bearing or socket and, as here shown, preferably consists of the metallic socket 8 secured to a removable block of wood 9 by means of screws 10, said block 9 being shoved into the end of thetube or casing 1 after the roller 6 has been inserted.
The curtain pole formed by the casing 1 is provided with suitable ornamental ends, as for example, the ends 11 which arosecured in. place by means of a screw 12 engaging the block 9 and having a tang 13 which is seated in a socket of the ornamental end '11. Wound upon the roller 6 is a curtain shade 14: which is movable down through the opening 2; and the curtain pole is suit-ably supported at the top of the window frame 15 by means of hook shaped bracket 16 secured to the sides of the window frame. The curtain 17 is suspended from the rings 3, as shown in Fig. 1, over the shade 1 1..
It will be seen that by means of this invention a simple and convenient curtain pole, shade roller, and shade is provided which may be used setup in place and taken apart. I
Having described the invention 1 claim 1- As a new article of manufacture, a com: bined curtain pole and shade support comprising a cylindrical shell having a longitudinally-extending slot, the longitudi-nal" edges of said slot being inturned to provide rounded shade guiding lips, said shell provided with a longitudinal row of base openings arranged in spaced parallel relation tosaid slot, shade roller bearings supported Within. said shell, and curtain rings having shanks projecting through and fixedly held a in said openings and provided with heads In, testimony whereof I hereunto affix my slgnature in presence of two witnesses.
