UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN S. BOWLING, OF MARCELLUS, MICHIGAN.
C U 8 PI D O R SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 284,601, dated September 11, 1883.
Application filed November 17,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN S. BOWLING, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Marcellus, in the county of Cass and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Guspidors, of which the following is a specification, to wit:
This invention relates to cuspidors; and it consists in the construction of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in the art towhich my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe it, referring to the accompanying drawing, which represents a perspective view of my invention.
a represents a cuspidor of any desired form or material, formed or provided on its under side with a tube or socket, a. This cuspidor is supported on a suitable stand, having legs I) and a central post, from which projects, at the upper end, a spindle, b, which fits within the socket a and secures the cuspidor firmly in place.
It is obvious that the spindle or arm I) may, if desired, be upon the cuspidor and the socket a upon the stand without departing from the spirit of my invention.
This device forms a Very convenient and useful article for parlors, may be decorated in any style dictated by good taste, and becomes a very ornamental piece of furniture; and the parts are easily detached for cleaning, during which operation the socket a forms a convenient handle.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I The combination, with the cuspidor a, haviug socket a, of a stand provided with legs I) b and spindle b, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN S. BOWLING.
