More particularly, the invention deals with a structure of this type and kind wherein one wall of the slider body is formed of a material inherently flexible and directly fixed to the slider body by longitudinally spaced coupling members maintaining said wall in alignment with the companion wall of the slider body.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which;
Fig. 1 is a plan view of one form of slider which I employ, with parts of the construction broken away and in section;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1';
Fig. 3 is a plan view of another form of slider which I employ; and
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 44- of Fig. 3.
In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, I have shown a slider comprising a slider body defined by a wall 11 having at one end a projecting web 12, the web having at its lower surface an extended flange or platform portion 13 extending at the sides and in the direction of the single channel end portion 14 of the slider. The web 12 has a pair of integral downwardly projected rivet members 15 for securing a flexible or resilient wall 16 to the body It).
The wall 11 of the body 10 has at the single channel end portion inturned flanges 17 partially defining said channel. The outer surface of the wall 11 has open pivot lugs, one of which is shown at 18, for coupling the usual slider pull therewith, the latter being not shown as it forms no part of the present invention. The wall 11 in alignment with the member 18 is recessed, as seen at 19, to give clearance for the swinging of such pull. The inner surface 20 of the wall 11 where it terminates at the end 14 is rounded as seen at 21, the wall 16 being similarly rounded as seen at 22, and these round surfaces facilitate movement of the slider in rejoining the zipper after the zipper has been opened due to any jamming condition which may be experienced.
The wall 16 is recessed as seen at 23' to receive the flange or platform 13, this recessing terminating substantially at 24' as noted in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The wall 16 also has two apertures 25 for reception of the rivet pin members 15, as clearly noted in Fig. 2 of the draw ing, in securing the wall 16 in position on the body 10 and in maintaining alignment of this wall with the Wall 11. The wall 16 is also recessed as seen at 26 on its lower surface to receive a plate or washer 27, the recess and washer being generally of the contour noted in Fig. 1 of the drawing. This construction leaves the outer or lower surface of the washer 27 flush with the adjacent or bordering surface of the wall-16, as will clearly appear from a consideration of Fig. 2 of the drawing.
p r 2,829,415 Patented Apr. 8, 1958' V The wall 16 atthe end portion 14 of the slider has inturned side flanges 28 which, in conjunction with the'flanges 17, form the single channel end of the slider body. The flanges 28 are also preferably rounded or flared where they open through the end 14, as noted at- 29 in Fig. 1 of the drawing, to assist in the operation of recoupling the stringer scoops as noted above.
With the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the wall 16 is preferably composed of amolded plastic material having inherent flexible or resilient properties, and, further, a material which would give the required yielding properties in operation of the slider along the stringers. I have found that molded nylon is one material suitable for this use. 7 The flexible or resilient properties of this material will enable the wall 16 to move relatively to the wall 11 in the event of jamming of the slider by virtue of catching foreign material or fabric between the slider and the stringers, and by manipulation of the slider the foreign material or fabric can be freed and the slider again put into operation on the stringers.
In Figs; 3 and 4 of the drawing, I have shown another adaptation of the invention wherein the slider body 10' is substantially identical with the body 10 shown in Figs. 1 and 2, with the exception that the rivet members 15' are short in length as compared to the members 15. For this reason, no further detailed description of the body 10 wall member which differs from the member 16 in being formed from a sheet of metal rather than as a molded part, the 31 generally conforming to the contour of the body 10 and seating upon the manner clearly seen in Fig. 4 of the drawing. The wall 30 is offset pwardly, or, in other words, in the direction of the wall 11 of the body 10', as seen at 32 so as to bring the inner surface 33 in alignment with the inner surface 34 of the platform 13'. In this connection, it will be noted that in Figs. 1 and 2, the inner surface 35 of the wall 16 is also in alignment with the inner surface of the platform 13. The wall 30 includes the side flanges 35- similar to' the flanges 28 and the contracted end of the wall 39 is rounded as seen at 36 similar to the rounding 22 of the wall 16. The wall 30 can be composed of any suitable sheet material having inhe'rent flexible or resihent properties, and, in the use of some metals which might be subject to rusting, the material will then be treated by coatings or ,platings to render the same substantially rustproof. On the other hand,'this wall can be produced from heat treated berylliurncopper which'is a highly resilient material and a material which is rustproof.
With both forms of construction, that the rivet members 15, 15' are heated in securing the walls 16, 30' in position. This mounting will not only hold the mounted end portions of the walls on the slider body but will further substantiate proper alignment of the-slider walls one with respect to the other. The mounting issuch as to facilitate the flexing of the contracted end portions of the walls 16, 30 at the single channel end of the slider to compensate for any jamming condition which may acc'idently take place tion of the slider along a pair of stringers.
It will be further apparent that the platforms 13, 13' maintain positioning of the walls 16 and 30 with respect to the walls 11, 11" in defining the normal contour of the'single channel end of the sliders.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A slider for separable fastener stringers having a double channel end and a single channel end and comprising a flanged top wall integrally joined to a web at the double channel end thereof, a platform integrally joined to the web opposite the top wall, a bottom wall on said platform, interengaging means on said platform the top wall and normally spaced from the top wall and bottom wall for securing the latter to the platform, said bottom wall having a flanged end portion normally spaced from the top wall to enable the slider to couple and uncouple said stringers, said bottom wall being made of yieldable material andtthe flanged end portion thereof being relatively movable with respect to the web, said top wall. being made of stiflier material than the bottom wall and being relatively immovable with respect to the web, said flanged end portion being movable.
from the said normal position thereof away from the top wall by engagement of the slider with a foreign object disposed between the slider and the stringers tending to impede the passage of and jam the slider on the stringers, said movement of said flanged end portion assisting to release the slider from engagement with the foreign object, and said flanged end portion being movable automatically to the normal position thereof after said release of the slider.
9. A sliderfor separable fastener stringers having a double channel end and a single channel end and comprising a flanged top wall integrally joined to a web at the double channel end thereof, a platform integrally joined to the web opposite the top wall, a bottom wall separate from the web and from the top wall, means for securing said bottom wall to the platform, said bottom wall having a flanged end portion normally spaced from the top wall to enable the slider, to couple and uncouple said stringers, said bottom wall being made of yieldable material and the flanged end portion thereof being relatively movable with respect to the web, said top wall being made of stiffer material than the bottom wall and being relatively immovable with respect to the web, said flanged end portion being relatively movable with respect to the top wall and the web by coming into contact with a foreign object, said movement of the flanged-end portion assisting to release the slider from engagement with the foreign object, and said flanged end portion being automatically movable to the normal position thereof after said release of the slider.
10. A slider for separable fastener stringers having a double channel end and a single channel end and comprising a flanged top wall integrally joined to a web at the double channel end thereof, a platform integrally joined to the Web opposite the top Wall and extending towards the single channel end of the slider, said platform being substantially parallel to the top wall, a bottom wall separate from the web and from the top wall, said bottom wall seating on and overlying the platform, means for securing said bottom Wall to the platform, said bottom wall being made of yieldable material and having a flanged end portion normally spaced from the top Wall to enable the slider to couple and uncouple said stringers, said flanged end portion and said platform each having inner surfaces that are in alinement with one another, said flanged end portion being relatively movable with respect to the top wall and the web by coming into contact with a foreign object, said movement of the flanged end portion assisting to release the slider from engagement with the foreign object, and said flanged end portion being automatically movable to the normal position thereof after said release of the slider.

A slider for separable fastener stringers having a double channel end and a single channel end and comprising a flanged top wall integrally joined to a web at the double channel end thereof, said top wall being stationary relatively to the web, a bottom wall of yieldable material and separate from the web and from the top wall, means for securing said bottom wall to the web, said bottom wall having a flanged end portion normally spaced from the top wall to enable the slider to couple and uncouple said stringers, said flanged end portion being relatively movable with respect to the top wall and the web by engagement of the slider with a foreign object disposed between the slider and the stringers, said movement of the flanged end portion assisting to release the slider from engagement with the foreign object, and said flanged end portion being automatically movable to the normal position thereof after said release of the slider.

A slider for separable fastener stringers having a double channel end and a single channel end and comprising a flanged top wall joined to a web at the double channel end thereof; a platform of relatively short length integrally joined to the web opposite the top Wall and extending towards the single channel end of the slider, said platform being substantially parallel to the top wall, a bottom flanged wall separate from the web and the top wall and seating on and overlying the platform, interengaging means on said platform and bottom wall for securing the latter to the platform; said bottom wall having a flanged end portion which is offset towards the top wall and which is normally positioned relatively to the top wall to enable the slider to couple and uncouple said stringers, said flanged end portion and said platform each having inner surfaces that are in the same plane and in alinement with one another; said bottom wall being made of yieldable material and the flanged end portion thereof being relatively movable with respect to the web, said top wall being made of stifier material than the bottom wall and being relatively immovable with respect to the web; said flanged end portion of the bottom wall being movable from the said normal position thereof and away from the top wall by engagement of the slider with a foreign object disposed between said flanged end portion and the stringers, and said flanged end portion being movable automatically to the normal position thereof after release of the slider from engagement with said object.
13. A slider for separable fastener stringers having a double channel end and a single channel end and comprising a flanged top wall joined to a web at the double channel end thereof; a bottom flanged wall separate from the web and the top wall, interengaging means on said web and bottom wall for securing the latter to the Web; said bottom wall having a flanged end portion which is normally positioned relatively to the top .wall to enable the slider to couple and uncouple said stringers; said bottom wall being made of yieldable material and the flanged end portion thereof being relatively movable with respect to the web, said top wall being made of stiffer material than the bottom wall and being relatively immovable with respect to the web; said flanged end portion of the bottom wall being movable from the said normal position thereof and away from the top wall by engagement of the slider with a foreign object disposed between said flanged end portion and the stringers, and said flanged end portion being movable automatically to the normal position thereof after release of the slider from engagement with said object.
14. The slider of claim 12 wherein said bottom wall is of resilient plastic.
15. The slider of claim 12 wherein said bottom wall is of nylon.
16. The slider of claim 12 wherein said bottom wall is of resilient metal.
17. The slider of claim 12 wherein said bottom wall has integral therewith a mounting end portion which overlies said platform and wherein a separate plate member overlies said mounting end portion.
18. The slider of claim 13 wherein the walls and flanges defining the single channel end of the slider are rounded to provide an outwardly flared entrance on said end, said flared entrance facilitating movement of the slider in the fastener-opening direction.
