B. T. M. BOENKE.
NEGKTIE PASTENER.
No. 282,153. Patented July 31, 1883.
- WITNESSES: j INVENTOR $24 ,M Q JJ/A/XM' UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFI CE.
ERNST T. M. BOENKE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NTECKTlE-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters. Patent No. 282,153, dated July 31, 1883.
Application filed May 10, 1883. (No modeLl To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST T. M. BonNKE, a citizen of the UnitedStates, and a resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New. York, have invented certain new and useful Necktie-Bow Fasteners,
ton-holes of the shirt and collar from the inside toward the outside.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is shank, showing the same passed through the button-holes of a shirt and collar. Fig. 2 is a rear view of a necktie-bow provided with the shank or pintle adapted to be passed into the tubular shank of the button. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the necktie-bow or scarf fastener, showing it held in place on the shirt and collar, which, with the how, are shown in cross-section. Fig. 4. is a side viewof the button provided with the tubular shank.
Like letters indicate like parts.
A button-head, A, of the usual construction, is provided with atubular shank, B, which is open at the outer or free'end, and preferably has a bead formed on the outer edge to prevent the edge of the shank from cutting or mutilating the edges of the button-holesinthe shirt and collar. The said tubular shank can be made circular in cross-section, but is preferably flattened to prevent the pintle, stem, or shank C, which is passed into the same, from turning therein, the said stem or shank C also being flattened to fit into the tubular shank B. p
The stem, pintle, or shank G is fastened to and projects from aplate, D, fastened in some 4 5 suitable manner to. the back of the necktiebow or scarf E; orthe stem or pintle O can be fastened to the rear side of the bow in any other suitable manner.
Thetubular shank B is passed through the buttonholes of the shirt F and collar G from the inside toward the outside, so that the open end of the shank will be outward. The stem or-pintle C is then passed into the tubular shank, and will be held therein by friction, thus holding the bow in place. The necktiebow or scarf fastener thus also serves as a collar-button.
By means of the above-described devicethe necktie-bow or scarf can be fastened or removed very easily and rapidly.
' It is evident that Without deviating from the spirit of my invention the tubular shaft can be fastened on the necktie-bow. or scarf, and the stem or pintle can be secured to the buttonhead, which may be of any desired shape.
I The tubular shankB is slittedlongitudinally to increase its spring-power.
The scarfs provided with my improved fastener are not to have a neckband.
I do not claim, broadly, a button having a tubular shank on one head, and a pintle fitting into the said shank and secured to the other head. f
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is v r The combination, with a necktie-bow or scarf having an attaching-plate securedto its rear portion, and a button-shank projecting therefrom, of a removable button-head and tube adapted to co-operate with said shank,
all substantially as set forth.
ERNST T. M. BOENKE.
