Description

Feb. 26, 1957 N. M. JACOBS 2,
GARMENT STORAGE COMPARTMENTFOR REFRIGERATORS Filed Oct. 31. 1955 Z 5 F/gJ was.
': I Nina Mae Jacobs INVENTOR.
United States Patent GARMENT STORAGE COMPARTMENT FOR REFRIGERATORS Nina Mae Jacobs, Tulsa, Okla.
Application October 31, 1955, Serial No. 543,734
1 Claim. (Cl. 62-102) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in household refrigerators and more particularly to a compartment in the refrigerator for the storage of furs, woolen or other garments.
An important object of the invention is to provide a garment storage compartment as a unitary structure in a household refrigerator casing and wherein the garment storage compartment is independent of the usual food compartment of the refrigerator and wherein both compartments are refrigerated by a single mechanical refrigerating unit and each compartment is provided with independent control means.
A further object is to provide each compartment with independent doors for selective access to the two compartments.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing both doors for the two compartments open;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5' designates the casing of a mechanical refrigerator and with the interior of the casing provided with a partition 6 separat- Patented Feb. 26, 1957 ing the refrigerator into a food compartment 7 and a garment storage compartment 8.
Both compartments are refrigerated by a single refrigcrating unit (not shown) and the compartment 7 is provided at its upper portion with a conventional type of control mechanism 9 while compartment 8 is similarly provided with an independent control mechanism 10, also of a conventional type.
The compartment 7 is provided with a door 11 while the compartment 8 is provided with an independent door 12 to provide access to the respective compartments.
Compartment 8 may also be provided at its upper portion with an electric fan 13 for circulating air in said compartment and a garment hanging bar 14 is also secured in the upper portion of the compartment 8.
The inner surface of door 12 is recessed as shown at 15 and provided with a plurality of horizontal bars 16 on which woolen blankets or other articles may be placed for storing in compartment 8.
Furs or other garments may be placed in the compartment 8 and supported on the garment supporting bar 14 while woolen blankets or other articles may be placed on the bars 16 for storage in the garment storage compartment 8 and maintained at a desired temperature by the control mechanism 10.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
In a refrigerating apparatus including a casing, a vertical partition in said casing dividing the same and forming a closed compartment in one side thereof, refrigerant control means in the upper part of said compartment, a door for said compartment having a recess in its inner side, clothes hanger bars in said recess parallel with said door, and a fan in the upper rear part of said compartment orientated downwardly towards said door to direct air into the recess and to clothes hung on said bars.
