Description

c. B. ALIG 2,062,631
FUR AND WOOLEN COLD STORAGE COMPARTMENT FOR HOUSEHOLD REFRIGERATORS Filed Oct. 9, 1935 cfzzzzezzzw J1EE flanges meadow. 1,. 1936 com s'ronsos son noossnomaarmosp A mann woomm rAa-rm'r nous col-s smuatira isss, Serial x0. I zcumsr-lcrszy-ssi An object of my invention is to provide 'a fur and woolen cold storage compartment of simple,
durable and inexpensive manufacture for a household refrigerator.-
a A further object is. to provide a cold storage compartment mountedin the same casing as afood compartment of a refrigerator but the cold storage compartment being independent of the food compartment and having an independent cooling unit.
A further object is operated from the same refrigerating machine would be the case if the cooling unit were mounts which operates the cooling ,unit of the food com-- partment of the refrigerator, means being pro vided to shut off the cooling unit in the cold storage compartment when it is not needed.
Another object is to provide a 'coid storage compartment for fur and woolen clothing and the like having a cooling unit adjacent the-floor of the compartment so that condensate does not drop therefrom on to the articles of 'clothing','as
ed adjacent the top of the compartment as in the usual food' refrigerator arrangement.
Another object is to'provide asmall storage compartment and thereby insure that the entire volume of air-within the compartment will be at the same temperature.
compartment a rodfor coat hangers and the like and hooks for articles of clothing or any suitable means for supporting coats and the like within the compartment and out of contact with the cooling unit.
Another object is to provide a grating over the cooling unit to prevent any possibilityof'the articles of clothing contacting with the cooling With these and other objects in view my'in-. vention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various partsof my device, whereby the obiects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated in the'accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a refrigeratorshowing a pair of doors open, one door being for a food compartment of the refrigerator and the other for my fur and woolen cold storage compartment.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the to provide a cold storage" compartment having a cooling unit which can be circulating fan to insure circulation of air in the cold fan' to prevent stratiilcation of-ain coldstorage compartment and thereby insure air 'line' H of even temperature" throughout the-comparizmi'. rit,
On theaccompanying drawing '1 have used the A reference numeral II to indicate'generallv a reirigerator casing.
The-casing 1a is providedf in'theusual manner ofjproviding closures ifor refrigerator. food 'compartments. The of the compartments A and]! are suitably maimed against the entranceof heat, the insulation being shown inFigures2and3at II. Within the compartment 3 I provide a cooling unit l8 which is preferablymounted adiacentthe Y floor of the compartment. Adjacent the top of I a coat hanger rod- 20 the compartment I provide on which a plurality'oi hangers'22lmay be hooked.
in Figure 1.1 show a fur coat-24' andan' .overeoat 26 hung on the hangers 22 and also another article of clothing, such as a wool-skirt 28, hung on one of the hooks 30, which I provide projecting.
DOSE.
32 for the food compartment A so that condensate dripping therefrom will not fall on and in- -jure the articles of clothing Another object is to provide in the cold storage within the cold storfrom the wall -ofthe compartment for aim ur-1 contact with :the cooling unit It by a grating 34 which is-positioned thereover; a A
The necessity of locating the unit ll adjacent the floor 'oi the compartment B brings up the problem of, air'stratiiication. because the air cooled by the unit would have a tendency to stay adjacent the unit and the air'within-the compartment'would be progressively warmer, the warmest air, of course, being at the top of the compartment. 'The unit "produces thermalair circular tion, but that-is not possiblewhen the unit is mounted adjacent the floor. Accordingly, I-provide avery small electricfan 36, the motor ofwhich is indicated at 3!. .This is' preferably pov sitioned under the grating 34 and at one end of the cooling unit ii. A plurality of deflector blades 40 are provided so as to deflect the air and evenly distribute it: over the cooling unit .II.
The air is drawn downwardly-as indicated by the arrow a and then deflected. as indicated by the arrow b, whereupon it passes over the cooling unit [8 and then upwardly'as indicated by the arrow c; Thus-aircirculation is'eiiectivelypro- .;woolens stored at centralised cold fl orage Plants.
In the winter time, ifit is desirable not to use the cold storage compartment, the cooling unit ll can be rendered inoperative by cloaingcontrol valves 42 and 44,. thus shutting oi! theflow o1 refrigerant to and from the refrigerating unit (not shown), which then supplies refrigerant to the food compartment unit 32 only. It is obvious, or course,- that the cooling unit I. can be operated whenever the cooling unit 32 is operated so that a separate control switch need not be provided responsive to the temperature in the compartment B. I! desired, however, a control switch can be provided responsive to this temperature;
Below the cooling unit I I I provide a defroster pan it which is readily removable and provides for collection or condensate from the cooling unit it it becomes necessary to defrost it.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts or my device withvout departing from the real spirit and purpose or my invention and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use or mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim as my invention! 1. In a device of the class described. erator casing, al'ood compartment therein anda fur and woolen cold storage compartment therein and independent of said food compartment, a cooling unit for said food compartment and a second cooling unit for said fur and woolen cold storage compartment, said second cooling unit being positioned adjacent the bottom of said fur and woolen cold'storage compartment, a grating over said second cooling t and means for circulating the air within partment past said second cooling unit.
2. In a device of the class described, a rei'rigerator casing, aiood compartment therein and a fur and woolen cold storage compartment therein andindependent of said food compartment, a
cooling unit for said food compartment'and a second cooling unit for said fur and woolen cold storage compartment, said second cooling unit being positioned adjacent the bottom 01' said fur and woolen cold storage compartment, a grating over said second cooling unit, means for circulating the air within said last mentioned compartment past said second cooling unit, said means comprising a fan located beneath said grating and at one end of said second cooling unit,
' said Ian being operable to circulate air downwardly through said grating over said cooling unit and then upwardly through said grating, a distributor adjacent said fan to evenly distribute the air over the. cooling unit and a removable tray below said cooling'unit to catch condensate therefrom.
