LYCURGUS BURNHAM, OF SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
EGG-BEATE R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,219, dated May 8, 1883.
Application filed May 16,1881. Renewed November 11, 1882.- (No inodel.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYGURGUS BURNHAM, of Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Egg-Beaters, of which the following is a specification.
This'improvement relates to that class of egg-heaters in which a gear-Wheel and pinion are employed.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 is an elevation of an egg-beater embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a vertical section, with the wire frame in elevation.
A is the'wire frame, to which is fixed the beater B. This wire frame is a continuous single piece of wire, A being the handle portion. The wire, after being formed into the handle, is doubled back upon itself and terminates in the coil A. At A the two portions of the wire are slightly spread apart to admit the by means of its handle D. Undue spreading of the wire at A and consequent loosing of the pivot O are prevented by the wrapper or clamp E through which the pivot extends.
frame A,just below the coil A, and, being engaged by the gear-wheel D, rotates the outer beater, G, (placed loosely upon the wire A,) by means of the lugs F, which are cast with-the pinion, and clamp said heater G. The pinion F and the beater G, whose upper folds, Gr,are punctured by the wire A, are prevented from slipping down by means of the long eyelet or ferrule H, which is soldered or otherwise secured to the said wire in the position shown.
It will be noticed that the gear-wheel is kept stiff and firm in its position by reason of its face rubbing against the wire frame A, which being all of a continuous piece-handle, body, and heater portionis easily bent so as to support the pivot upon which the gear-wheel turns, the pinion which it engages, and the portion of its face opposite the portion engaging the pinion.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described improved egg-beater, consisting of the wire frame A and handle A, beatersB G, gearD F, the latter beingprovided with the lugs F and ferrule H, the said wire A being spread at A. to admit the pivot Got the gear-wheel D, and coiled around itself at A, as shown, the whole being constructed and arranged substantially as set forth.
