Description
L. BURNHAM.
me HEATER.
(No Model.)
Patented May 8, 1883;
\A/IITNESSES- INJENTU 54 m flat 721W UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LYCURGUS BURNHAM, OF SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
EGG-BEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,218, dated May 8, 1883.
Application filed November 11, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYGURGUS BURNHAM, of Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Egg-Beaters, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, in which I and provided with a wrapper or clamp, a,
through which a rivet, b, is. thrust, said rivet lying between the two portions A and G of the wire and supporting the gear-wheel c. The wire, continuing downward in a straight line at D,is provided with the pinion d, meshiuginto the gear-wheel c and the heater or blade 6, Whoseupper end is held between the pinion d and theferrulef. After the wire has extended below the beater c, it doubles back around said heater, following its general shape upward, but allowing ample room for the revolutions of the same, as at E, and at F, just above the pinion,is coiledaround the portions AG. This forms an excellent seat for the pinion d and prevents it from moving out of place.
The egg-beater is operated by means of a handle, g in the ordinary manner.
There is no novelty in the parts A B O of the wire, nor in the wheel, pinion, or heater 6.
The novel construction of the egg-beater is in bending the single wire back at E into the shape shown, and coiling it around itself at F,
thereby securing the pinion d and rendering the frame portion'E of the wire firm and stifi.
The simplicity and consequent inexpensive LYOURGUS BURN HAM.
Witnesses:
HENRY W. WILLIAMS, JOSEPH ISHBAUGH.
