Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GERTRUDE CAMPBELL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MONTH LY-PROTECTO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,770, dated May 1, 1883.
A Appnation mea December so, lese. Modem thin andlexible material as not to be uncom` fortable to the wearer, and of suitable shape to retain liquids or to retain cloths as absorbers. I attain these results by the construction and general shape shown in the accompanying drawings, in whicha Figure l is an elevation and longitudinal vertical section of the protector. Fig. 2 is a plan view, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section at the Y opening.
a represents the waistband, whichis buckled around the waistfand from which the protector g issuspended by the straps d and buckle b.
c is the opening for the passage ot' liquids, and through which cloths and suitable' absorbers are laid into the protector g until it is desirable to replace them.
The protector g is made out of very thin water-proof material, and hence it is also very flexible and not as uncomfortable to the limbs, between which it is Worn, as some others which may or may not be patented, but are practically a stift U-shaped section of thick rubber and extremely uncomfortable. As the weareris seated any liquid contained in the absorbers may be squeezed into the ends e or e, and still be kept from the underclothing by the Water-proof qualitiesv of the bag or protector g.
In Fig. 3, f and f' show how the protector bulges out sidewise, forming a larger space, capacity, or area, in which absorbers lie, than the opening c itself, thus keeping the absorbers in their proper place. This shape, as shown in the drawings, forms the improve,- mcnt for which Letters Patent are asked, the crescent shape, as shown in Fig. l, thespace e c', and the opening into it, c. of smaller dimensions.
The radical difference between U shape or cup` shape sections and the two sections shown in Figs. I and 3 must be ver;7 apparent. In other words, the area or space below the opening c is partially covered, and also several times larger than the opening itself. This is found to be a very necessary item, and hence deemed worthy ot Letters Patent.
I claim the same as follows:
The soft-rubber (or other water-proof maerial) inclosing-sack furnished with two straps at one end and one at the other, and with a central longitudinal opening cut out from the rubber for insertion ot' the ordinary napkin, all as and for the purpose described.
GERTHUDE CAMPBELL.
