HITOHING STRAP HOLDER.
N0. 275,695. Patent d Apr.-10,1 883.
} I QZwerfliav D f WWW? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CALEB D. PAGE, OF MORGAN, COLORADO.
HlTCHlNG-STRAP HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,695, dated April 10, 1883,
Application filed September 20,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CALEB D.. PAGE, of Morgan, in the county of Weld and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hitching-Strap Holders, to be attached to the saddle or any other part of the harness; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of thisspecitication, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved hitching-strap holder. Fig. .2 is a lougitudinal vertical section of the same.
The object of this invention is to construct a device which will hold the loose end of the hitchingstrap and obviate the necessity of tying it in the terret or other rings, and it is designed to be attached to the saddle or any other convenient part of the harness; and my invention consists of the combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed, and is an improvement on my application allowed August 12, 1882.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
In the drawings, A represents the plate, by which the holder is secured at any convenient place on the harness. ()n thisplate is secured the rigid serrated jaw B, provided with the jaws. 'Ihe pivoted jaw C is provided with the coil-spring D in the rear, which is attached to the plate A, and which presses the jaw C and holds it in position against the serrated jaw B, as shown in Fig. 2.
It is evident from this construction that when theholderis secured in position by means or screws, pins, or bolts, or in any convenient manner, the hitching-strap is readily slipped under the projection b and into the opening between the jaws by depressing the pivoted jaw C, and when the jaws are allowed to close 1 by the spring D the hitching-strap will, by the the positive action of the projection 11, be prevented t'rom slippinglaterall y from between the jaws, while the serrations of the jaw B will prevent the hitching-strap from slipping out of position until the pivoted jaw is again depressed. I
I am aware that serrated jaws for hitchingstrap holders are notv broadly new, nor do I claim such as my invention.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by 'Letters Patent, is-
In a hitching-strap holder, the plate A and the rigid serrated jaw B, provided with the projection 12, in combination with the pivoted jaw C, provided with the transverse groove 0,
"and the spring D, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
