UNITED STATES PATENT FrrcE.
ELMORE W. TAYLOR, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
SPECIFICATION forming". part of Letters Patent No. 274,052, dated March 13, 1883.
I Application filed January 18, 1883. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELMORE W. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Advertising Device, Card and Picture Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
thereon, which form apart of this specification. i
Figure l is a perspective view of this device. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank which con- Fig. 3 is a plan view of the card,or photograph, or picture. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the blank folded and ready to receive the card, or photograph, or picture.
This invention relates to an advertising device, but which is also adapted for use as a photograph-mount or picture-holder, and for any such analogous purposes.
The essential features of the invention are ablank stamped or otherwise made out of any desired material, and capable'of being bent, and adapted to carry or hold acard by merely looking or connecting the card in the upright sides of the bent blank. 1
In the accompanying drawings, A denotes the frame or support. This can be stamped, out, or otherwise made of card-board, thin metal, or any other suitable material, and when so prepared will present in general the form now indicated in Fig. 2that is, such a form as shall be adapted to be bent, as on dotted lines a a, so that the parts a a,-which form the sides, may be brought at right angles, or substantially so, to the base part (L The projections a will constitute legs when the blank is bent into position for use, as shown in Fig. 4. It is not absolutely necessary to have said legs. When used they may be arranged so as to come at any other position in the base [01' tion a 'than as now shown.
The card B has on its sides the shoulders or projections 12. The angle between the ends of each and the side of the card is preferably somewhat acute. The projections b are adapted When so fitted at each side to the bent parts a of the blank A, the ends of the projections b will serve to hold the card in position, while at the same time the card can be moved forward or back on the curve a so as to present it at any desired inclination. The mere details of adjusting the card to the frame may be varied in many ways. Among the most obvious would be to put the fulcrum or point a at the lower side and the curve a at the upper. Likewise, the form of the projection b can be varied, as by having pins or the like inserted into the edges of the card B, and the frame may have merely a hole for the pivoted support and a slot for the sliding support. My aim is to provide means in the frame for supporting the card, and on the card means for attaching it to the frame so as to hold the frame in position. The card may have any advertisement printed on its face, or it may have a picture or photograph placed upon it. The card may also be of any desired shape or size that taste or fancy may suggest. So, also, the blank A can be of any desired shape or size.
It-will be obvious that this device can be used for a wide range of purposes, though the consider new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isa 1. The herein-described device, consistlng of a blank and card, the blank being cut and bent into suitable shape, and so held by the edges of the card, which fit into suitable recesses or openings in the upturned sides of I said blank, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a blank with a card,
constructed as set forth, whereby the former Having now described my invention, what I is held in shape by the latter, and the latter as described, with the card B, substantially as can be placed at any desired inclination, suband for the purposes set forth. 7 1o stantially as described. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 3. The combination of frame A, having presence of two witnesses. sides a, provided with notch a and curve a ELMORE W. TAYLOR. combined with card B, having projections b, Witnesses: substantially as described. S. S. BABGOCK,
4. The combination of the frame A, made It. A. PARKER.
