6 Claims.

The invention relates to supports for cards or signs formed of cardboard or the like, and more particularly to adevice adapted to display the card in upright position above the ground.

The object of the invention is to provide a support of this character of simple and inexpensive construction, adapted to be used for only a short time, such as for displaying political advertisements for a short time before an election.

Another object is to provide a support of this kind formed of two simple members of metal or the like adapted to be quickly and easily assembled upon the card.

A further object is to provide such a support formed of a substantialy straight member of wire or the like having two spaced loop portions adapted to be placed through openings formed in the card and a V-shaped wire member, the legs of which are adapted to be inserted through said loops and stuck into'the ground to support the card in upright position.

The above objects together with others that will be apparent from the drawing and following description, or which may be later referred to, may be attained by constructing the improved card support in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a front elevation of a card mounted upon the card holder to which the invention pertains;

Fig. 3, an elevation of the V-shaped wire supporting member;

Fig. 4, a perspective view of the wire clamping member; and

Fig. 5, a similar view of a modified form of clamping member formed of sheet metal.

Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawing.

The card or sign to be supported by the improved support to which the invention pertains may be of cardboard, or the like, as indicated at H], having any desired advertising matter upon its front surface ll, while its back surface l2 may be blank.

The support is formed of two separable members comprising the clamping member l3 and the V-shaped supporting member l4, both of which may be formed of wire, as shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive.

In the form of clamping member shown in these figures, it is preferable that this member be made of a single length of light gauge wire which may be substantially straight except for the two 1938, Serial No. 233,389

spaced loops or eyes l5 which may be formed therein by bending the wire upon itself as best shown in Figs. 3 and 4.

The V-shaped supporting member I l is formed of a single length of wire, preferably of heavier gauge than that used for the member l3, and the apex of the V is preferably rounded as at It so that the diverging legs I! may be pressed toward each other in assembling the device and will spring back to normal position when released.

In assembling the support upon the card, holes IB are first punctured in the card at the proper spaced points to receive the loops or eyes l5 of the member l3. This may be accomplished by placing the member l3 in proper position upon the card and puncturing the card by means of the sharpened ends IQ of the legs I1, at the points upon the card adjacent to said loops or eyes.

The member I3 is then placed transversely across the front of the card and the eyes or loops 55 thereof are inserted through the openings !8 in the card. The legs I! of the supporting member are then pressed toward each other and inserted through the upper sides of the loops IE on the rear side of the card, and projected downwardly therethrough to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the sharpened ends IQ of the legs ll are stuck into the ground a sumcient distance to support the card in upright position above the ground.

It will be evident that the diverging legs I! when inserted into the earth will hold the card against movement relative to the support, as the eyes or loops l5 of the clamping member cannot move either upward or downward upon the legs Although the clamping member is shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive as made of wire, it may be desirable to form this member of sheet material as shown at lea in Fig. 5. For this purpose a narrow strip of sheet metal or the like may be used, and the loops or eyes l5u may be punched therein and inserted through the holes in the card in the same manner as above described rela- V tive to the loops l5 of the wire clamping member, after which the V-shaped supporting member is placed upon the back of the card and the legs thereof inserted through the loops or eyes in the manner above described.

From the above it will be seen that a simple and inexpensive card support is provided which may be quickly and easily assembled to support a card above the ground, and which may be produced at such low cost that it may be used for a short time and then discarded.

I claim:

1. In combination with a card, a support including a clamping member adapted to be placed across the front of the card and having spaced loops adapted to be inserted through the card, and a supporting member adapted to be located on the rear side of the card and having depending legs adapted to be inserted through said loops.

2. In combination with a card, a support including a clamping member adapted to be placed across the front of the card and having spaced loops adapted to be inserted through the card, and a supporting member adapted to be located on the rear side of the card and having depending legs adapted to be inserted through said loops, and sharp ends upon said legs for insertion into the ground.

3. In combination with a card, a support including a clamping member adapted to be placed across the front of the card and having spaced loops adapted to be inserted through the card, and a supporting member adapted to be located on the rear side of the card and having depending, diverging legs adapted to be inserted through said loops.

4. In combination with a card, a support including a clamping member adapted to be placed across the front of the card and having spaced loops adapted to be inserted through the card, and a V-shaped wire supporting member adapted to be located on the rear side of the card and having depending legs adapted to be inserted through said loops.

5. In combination with a card, a support including a wire clamping member adapted to be placed across the front of the card and having spaced loops formed therein adapted to be inserted through the card, and a supporting member adapted to be located on the rear side of the card and having depending legs adapted to be inserted through said loops.

6. In combination with a card, a support including a sheet metal clamping member adapted to be placed across the front of the card and having spaced loops punched therein adapted to be inserted through the card, and a supporting member adapted to be located on the rear side of the card and having depending legs adapted to be inserted through said loops.
