UNITED STTES ATENT OFFICE.
JOHN V. BELLI, 0F CLIFTON, NEW JERSEY.
CARD HOLDER.
Application filed September To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN V. BELLI, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Clifton, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Card Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in directories, and the like, and it pertains more particularly to a new and improved form of card holder in devices of this character.
It is one of, the primary objects of the invention to provide a device which will support a plurality of cards bearing predetermined indicia.
It is a further object of the invention to contruct a device of this character in such a manner that the cards may be readily inserted and removed therefrom without} bending or injury thereto.
It is a further object of the invention to construct a device of this character in such a manner that the space presented by the entire face thereof may be used.
It is a further object of the invention to construct the card-supporting members in such a manner that they will at all times be retained in place.
The invention furthermore has for an object to provide a device of the indicated class which can be readily and economically manufactured, reflecting practical consideration with respect to strength and simplicity of construction.
lVith the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which- 4 Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a View in rear elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4; is a detail sectional view taken on the line 4c4c of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a detail rear perspective view;
Fig. 6 is a. detail rear perspective view showing a supporting leg and its method of attachment to the device. 7
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the device comprises a body member 10 formed of sheet metal or the like, and having formed thereon a plurality of lugs 11. The body member 10 has its side edges 5, 1923. Serial No. 661,091;
bent backwardly upon itsself as designated by the reference character 12, to present a finished edge 13 defining the body member. Each of the lugs 11 is formed by means of a right-angular cut through the body portion 10, one side of the angular out being designated by the reference character 14:, the other side thereof being designated by the reference character 15.
After the body member has been cut as described, the metal is ofiset with respect to the body member 10, by a die or other suitable means, as shown at 16 and 17, and this construction provides a plurality of oppositely disposed card-receiving pockets 18. From the foregoing construction it will be noted that the card-receiving pockets have two open sides 19 and 20 and two closed sides 21 and 22. The closed side 22 of each pocket, which side is preferably the end of the pocket, serves to support the card when the same is placed therein, while the closed side 21, which is preferably one of the sides of the pocket, prevents accidental displacement or shifting of the card when the same is mounted therein.
WVhile in the present instance the body member 10 is shown as formed with six rows of lugs 11 arranged in such a manner as to carry three rows of cards, it is obvious that anyarrangement of the lugs upon the body member 10 which will permit of the use of the greatest number of cards, may be employed if desired.
It will be noted that the rear face of the body member 10 is provided with a plurality of rearwardly projecting lugs 25 formed in the same manner as the lugs 11 heretofore mentioned except that they are oppositely disposed, that is, with their open end positioned downwardly.
The reference character 26 designates a supporting leg, and said supporting leg has an ofiset end portion 27, which is adapted to be received in the downwardly disposed open end of the pockets formed by the lugs 25, for the purpose of securing the supporting leg 26 to the body member 10 to support the body member 10 in inclined position.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a new and improved directory of the removable-cardholdin type in which a maximum number of car s may be used, andin which the cards are capable of insertion and removal without damage thereto. Furtl'iermore, by the llt) arrangement of the plurality of lugs 25, the angular position in which the directory may be supported may be changed or varied to meet the desired requirements.
What is claimed is:
As a new article of manufacture, a directory board comprising a sheet metal plate having each of its marginal edges bent backwardly upon the body portion thereof, a plurality of pockets formed, by cutting the board and striking the material therefrom to provide integral projecting members adapted to receive therebetween cards to be supported in display position on one face of the board, and a plurality of projectin members formed integral with the plate ant projecting therethrough in a direction opposite to that of the first-mentioned projecting members, and a supporting leg having an offset portion adapted to be received in two of said last-mentioned plurality of projecting members to support the directory board in display position.
