Description

Jan. 25, 1955 s. MILLER Y 2,700,249
COMBINATION MARACA AND BEVERAGE RECEPTACLE Filed NOV. 26, 1951 Evil INVENTOR. SAMUEL MILLER.
75L, dwm I 4; ATTOENEIJ.
United States Patent COMBINATION MARACA AND BEVERAGE RECEPTACLE Samuel Miller, Lawrence, N. Y.
Application November 26, 1951, Serial No. 258,189
3 Claims. (Cl. 46-175) This invention relates to a, combination musical or noise making device, such as a maraca and a cocktail or other beverage receptacle. The invention may be usefully employed in either capacity by a simple adjustment of the respective parts and is ideally suited as a souvenir for use in cocktail lounges, night clubs and the like places of entertainment.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which may be economically manufactured in a form serviceable and durable for the intended purposes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of pleasing appearance which may be used to accompany music or to make noise when assembled in either of its alternative forms.
A further object is to provide a device which may be readily assembled into a maraca or a cocktail receptacle.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the annexed drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of an embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the device in Fig. l, with certain parts broken away to show further details and with the parts assembled in position for the device to serve as a maraca; and
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device shown in Fig. 2 with the parts assembled in position for the device to hold a beverage.
Referring to the drawings, and more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, it will be seen that the device comprises a hollow body portion designated generally as A, preferably having the general contour of a sphere, and a handle or stem portion B. The device is preferably made of relatively hard plastic, such as polystyrene, or other suitable plastic resistant to alcoholic beverages. The body A comprises a major segment 2 and a minor segment 3, the segment 2 being interiorly threaded as at 4 for engagement with a cooperating threaded portion 5 carried on the segment 3 to provide for securing the segments together into a unitary body and permitting ready detachment for the purposes to be hereinafter described.
The body 2 is provided with a transverse partition 6 dividing said segment into a compartment 7 and a relatively larger container chamber 9. Pellets 8 (Fig. 2), such as stones, are enclosed in the compartment 7 so as to create a sound when the device is shaken in use as a maraca. The container chamber 9 is liquid-tight and serves as a beverage bowl or receptacle when the parts are assembled as shown in Fig. 3.
The wall of segment 2 opposite the partition 6 is provided with a central threaded bore 10 in axial alignment with the stem B for receiving the cooperatingly threaded end 11 of the stem B. Upon unscrewing the threads 4-5 (Fig. 2) and separating the segments 2 and 3 the parts may be reversed and the stem end 11 screwed into the threaded bore 10 to thereby convert the device into the cocktail receptacle shown in Fig. 3, in which case the minor segment 3 serves as a base for the receptacle.
2,700,249 Patented Jan. 25, 1955 While the invention has been described with respect to the presently preferred embodiment which has been found entirely satisfactory, it will be understood by those skilled in the art after understanding the invention that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A combination noise maker and beverage receptacle comprising a body portion and a stern portion, said body portion comprising a first segment and a second segment detachably secured together at a zone of severance, said stem portion being secured at one end tosaid first segment, said second segment being provided with a partition opposite said zone of severance dividing said segment into a container chamber and an enclosed compartment, and said second segment being provided also with fastening means disposed in substantial axial alignment with said stem for cooperative engagement with corresponding means provided on the other end of said stem, and a plurality of pellets enclosed within said compartment, whereby when said segments are secured together a noise maker is provided and when said segments are detached and the other end of said stem is secured to said second segment a beverage receptacle is provided.
2. A combination maraca and beverage receptacle comprising a body portion and a stem portion, said body portion comprising a minor segment and a major segment detachably secured together at a zone of severance, said stem portion being secured at one end to said minor segment, said major segment being provided with a partition opposite said zone of severance dividing said segment into a container chamber and an enclosed compartment and said major segment being provided also with fastening means disposed in substantial axial alignment with said stem for cooperative engagement with corresponding means provided on the other end of said stem, and a plurality of pellets enclosed within said compartment, whereby said segments are secured together a maraca is provided and when said segments are detached and the said fastening means on the other end of said stem is cooperatively engaged with the fastening means on the major segment a beverage receptacle is provided.
3. A combination maraca and beverage receptacle comprising a substantially spherical hollow body portion and a stern portion, said substantially spherical hollow body portion comprising a minor segment and a major segment secured together at a zone of severance by male screw threads provided on said minor segment and cooperating screw threads provided on said major portion, said stem portion being secured at one end to said minor segment, said major segment being provided with a partition opposite said zone of severance dividing said segment into a container chamber and an enclosed compartment and a threaded bore disposed in axial alignment with said stem, said stem at its other end being provided with a threaded tip for cooperative engagement in said bore, and a plurality of pellets enclosed within said compartment, whereby when said segments are secured together a maraca is provided and when said segments are detached and the other end of said stem is secured to said major section a beverage receptacle is provided.
