GIOVANNI FANTONI, OF ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY.
SOUVENIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 740,834, dated October 6, 1903.
A. Application tiled April 2, 1903. Serial No. 150,709. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GIOVANNI FAN'roNI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing in lAtlantic City, county of Atlantic, State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful lmprovements inSouvenirs, of which the following is a specication.
My invention consists of a souvenir of the form of a drinking-glass or other vessel having a` transparent chamber Within which is inclosed a coin, medal, or other object, the same being visible but inaccessible, forming a device serviceable as a memento of an eX- position, fair, celebration, tour, visit, dre.
Figure l represents a perspective view of a souvenir embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a centralfvertical section thereof.
e Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a vessel of the form of a drinking-glass in the bottom portion of which is the chamber B, Within which is the coin C or lin lieu thereof a medal or other object, said vessel having a side Wall and an open mouth for drinking purposes, it being noticed that said vessel has a faise bottom D, which is elevated above the bottom proper, E, said bottoms D and E forming the upper and lower walls of said chamber B, the sides of the latter being the side wall of said vessel, said bottoms being integral with the body of said vessel. The upper side of the fiat bottom D -is convex, forminginameasurealens whichwillmagnify the coin or other object O within the chamber B. It will also be noticed that the object C is inaccessible and cannot be removed, and so it remains a fixture of the vessel and forms an interesting subject or souvenir, especially as matt-er may be engraved or otherwise inscribed on said'object having reference to an exposition, fair, celebration, tour, visit, dac., and thus the device serves as a memento same. Again, said bottom may be made to strike the sides of the vessel and serve in a rmeasure as a rattle.
In practice the parts, excepting the object C, are formed integral of glass or other transparent material, it being evident that it is essential that either of the bottoms D and E should be formed of transparent material, so that the object C may be seen therethrough.
When both bottoms are transparent, as shown, it is evident that both the obverse and reverse of a coin, medal, dre., may be observed. 1
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a vessel such as a drinking-tumbler, having a side Wall and open mouth, a bottom of transparent material and a false bottom also of transparent material at a distance from the rst-named bottom, the two bottoms with the adjacent portions of the side Wall forming an entirely-closed chamber and an object permanently inclosed by said chamber.
2. In a vessel such as a drinking-tumbler, having a side wall and open mouth, a bottom of transparent material and a false bottom also of transparent material at a distance from the first-named bottom, the two bottoms with theadjacent portions of the side wall forming an entirely-closed chamber and an object Vpermanently and movably inclosed by said chamber.
