The present invention. relates to new and-ruseful improvements .in combination. cribs rand-play pens,- and umore particularly ltora folding -device of this character.
-Animportant object of the present invention is to provide a combination crib and'playpen having rigid ends and foldable sides, the sides being composed of :a pair of foldable sections whereby the .sides may be folded inwardly in a compact form parallel to the ends.
Another object .of .the invention is to provide .-a foldable platform supported on foldable sides which'are also hinged to .the ends for folding inwardly together with the sides of the crib, the platform. supporting a mattress which is re- ;movablecso that the platform may :then be used as the -.floor of the-play pen.
A further object of the invention is to pro- -vide a hinged gate at one side of the crib to facilitate the placing .of a child therein.
A still further object is to provide supporting brackets of a novel construction for the platformwhen inits lowered position.
.An additional object is to provide -valdeviceof this character of simple and. practical construction, which is neat and attractive in-appearance, relatively [inexpensive to manufactureland otherwise well adapted ,for the ,purposesrz-for-which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the detailseaof -;constructionand operation iasmore ,fully hereinafter desc1'ibed .and claimed reference being had to'theaccompanying drawings forming part' hereof, wherein like numerals referto like parts '-throughout,--and in-whichz Figured is a side elevational view;
Figure 2 is a top plan view showing the combined crib and play pen in "openposition;
Figure 3 is a similar -view=:showing the platform folded upwardly:against.the end and with the sides of the crib partly folded;
.Figure 4 is a similar viewshowing the device in 1 its completelyiolded positiorr;
Figure -5 is 'a' sectional view of the lower por- 7 tion of the combined crib and play pen taken on a line 5-5 of Figure 2;
Figure 6 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view taken on a line 66 of Figure 2 and showing the latch for the gate;
Figure 7 is a transverse sectional view taken on a line 'l--'! of Figure 6; and
Figure 8 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view of one of the supporting brackets for the platform, taken on the line 8-8 of Figure 5.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, where- .latter.

Section vwishing-ed by conventionahhinge :structurewto .ancu pright 1-9 which is secured to an adjacent post, upright 129 being (aligned with therside' ti -when in energ zesition.
:The free aedge of gate I1 is provided withLa vertically sliding catch designated generally at 21 and-comprising-a verticalmetal strap ,2,2...h'aving vertical slots 23 therein engaged lbehindthe :heads of screws 24 vsecured -,.to the .end .frame member 25 of .the gate .on the inside :of the Upper-and lower locking bolts 25 ,are securedto, plate,22 fortmovement therewithin openings 2] .in the vertical framecmemberailii of ,gate 1:1. The ends .of the .bolts ,arewformed with downwardly extending detentslZB received in eyes 29 formed-on brackets .30 which are attached torancupright vertical -strip-.3l supported on and .adjacentpost l {by .cenventionalhinge structures '32. IIhe upper .end of iplatesufl is formed with a viingergrip 24a- :tofacilitateits raising and lowering movement.
The side 9, composed of hinged section l6, gate 11, and upright 3|, is foldable inwardly toward end 5 parallel thereto and also parallel to the folded side 8 and end 6, as shown in Figure 4, the uprights I5 and I9 at opposite corners of the crib spacing each folded side from one end to accommodate the other folded side in parallelism with each other and with the ends.
A combined mattress support for the crib and floor for the play pen comprises a pair of platform sections 33 and 34 hinged to rails 35 and 36 mortised in the posts I of each end and 6 for swinging the platform sections upwardly against the adjacent end.
The platform sections are supported in a lowered horizontal position on duplicate side frames 31 and 38 each composed of hinged sections 39 and 40 hinged connected to each otherby hinges 4| and with section 39 hinged to a corner post 1 by hinges 42 and section 40 hinged to an adjacent upright l5 or [9 by hinges 43 similar to the adjacent side of the crib'8 or 9.
Supporting brackets 44 are secured to the side frames 31 and 38 and have upstanding tongues 45 received in recesses 46 in the under side of the platform sections.
In the operation of the device, when the sides 8 and 9 are swung into an open position parallel with each other, as shown in Fig. 2, the sides are locked from collapsing movement by swinging platform sections 33 and 34 downwardly to rest on brackets 44 which look the platform to supporting frames 38 and 39.
Gate Il may be opened by releasing latch 2i and swinging the gate outwardly, whereupon a child may be placed in the crib, either on amattress (not shown) supported on platform sections 33 and 34, or directly on the platform, which serves as the floor of a play pen.
When the device is not in use, platform sections 33 and 34 are swung upwardly against the ends 5 and 6 and sides 8 and 9 collapsed inwardly at the hinges i2 and $8, in the manner shown in Figure 3, against the ends 5 and 6 to position the folded sections of the sides parallel to the ends, as shown in Figure 4. The platform supporting frames 38 and 39 collapse with the sides 8 and 9.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spiritof the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.
