The attachment is designed primarily'for undergarments worn by women during the menstrual period, orotheriperiod, to preyentthe transmission of-mcistureformed by the body to theputengarmerits w'ornfbythe woman.

"An ins'ertf24, made of a thin, transparent 1 plastic material such as Pliofilm, Saranjior any i other suitable water-proof, 7 thin plastic sheet, may be inserted-*between the rear-section of the garmentanal the lining; as indicated a in Figs. 2 and 4; a reinforcement or hem l 5; being formed around the edges of the insert, the edges of the hems being attached to the insert proper by stitching 26, heat sealing, or other suitable means.

A plurality of similar fabric tabs 29 may be attached to the bottom of the lining, or stitched to the bottom seam joining the lining to the rear section of the garment, one element 2| or 22, of the ball snap, or other suitable type of fastener, being attached to the tab, with the mating element of the fastener attached to the hem of the insert, the fasteners providing a detachable means for connecting the insert to the garment.

A plurality of openings 30 may be formed along the hem, at the upper end of the insert, in substantial alignment with the snap fasteners I5, a ring-shaped washer or reinforcement 3|, made of a plastic material, fabric, thin sheet metal, or other suitable material, being attached to one or both sides of the plastic material, around the opening, by gluing, heat sealing or other suitable means, to reinforce the material of the insert around the opening.

The ball end 2|, of each of the upper snap fasteners projects through the corresponding opening in the insert, thus clamping the upper end of the insert between the fastener elements 2| and. 22, connecting the upper end of the lining to the rear section of the garment, thereby supporting the upper end of the insert be tween the lining and the garment section.

The sides 32 of the insert may be left unattached, as indicated in Fig. 2, the insert being supported between the lining and the rear section of the garment, or a plurality of snap fasteners, may be used .to attach the sides of the insert to the lining IS in the same manner as those shown at the bottom of the insert.

In this manner, the insert 24 may be removed, or replaced when it becomes soiled, Without disturbing either the lining H5, or the body of the garment, thus enabling the user to wear the garment, either with or without the insert.

The balance of the garment, withthe insert removed, being made entirely of a fabric, may be laundered and ironed, in the conventional manner, the method of laundering depending upon the material used.

In a modification of the construction, shown in Figs. 3 and 5, the tabs 20 and 23 attached to the upper section of the lining, and the lower tabs 29, shown in Fig. 2, may be eliminated.

Where a heavy fabric material is used, the ball elements 2| of the fasteners may be attached directly to the upper end of the lining, the sockets 22, of the fasteners, being attached to the rear section II of the garment, or the ball and socket portions of the fasteners may be reversed.

The insert 24 is substantially the same as that shown in Figs. 2 and 4 and hereinbefore described, the openings 30, formed in the hem of the insert, fitting over the ball of the fastener, with the insert clamped between the rear section ll, of the garment, and the lining. Reinforcements 3|, similar to those shown in Fig. 4, and hereinbefore described, may be attached to the insert in substantially the same manner.

The bottom of the lining l6 may be attached to the rear section II, of the garment, in substantially the same manner, as that shown in Figs. 2 and 4 and. hereinbefo're described. The ball or socket elements 2| or 22, of the fasteners, may be attached directly to the fabric of the lining, with the mating elements, attached to the insert, the insert being supported by the fasteners, in the manner hereinbefore described.

In another modification of the construction, shown in Fig. 7, the ball section 2|, of a special dual snap fastener, would be attached to the rear section II of the garment, or to a tab, attached to the rear section, with the socket element 22. attached to the lining IE, or a tab attached to the lining, in substantially the same manner, as those shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

A plurality of dual intermediate fastener elements 33, each comprising a ball at one side, adapted to fit'the socket of the other fastener element 22, and a socket, formed in the rear portion of the element, adapted to receive the ball, of the ball element 2|, may be attached to the hem of the insert, in place of the openings shown in Fig. 4.

In this manner, the insert may be removed, and the lining attached to the rear garment section, by connecting the ball and socket elements of the fasteners, or the special combination elements 33, may be interposed between the ball and. socket elements, as indicated in Fig. 'I, to detachably support the insert.

In order to render the lining I6 completely detachable, the seam I8, at the bottom of the lining may, be eliminated, a pair of slide fastener tapes 3S and 31, being sewed to the bottom of the lining l6, and the bottom of the rear section ll of the garment, as indicated in Fig. 8, a pair of separators 38, being attached to the tapes below the end elements of the fastener, to enable one section of the fastener, attached to the lining, to be removed without disturbing the body of the garment.

The upper portion of the lining may be attached to the rear section II of the garment, in the manner shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and hereinbefore described.

The upper and lower end of the insert maybe interposed between the lining and the rear section of the garment and attached to the rear section and the lining by means of snap fasteners l5, in the manner shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and hereinbefore described.

The sides of the lining l6 may be left free, or attached to the sides of the rear section of the garment by means of a plurality of snap fasteners l5, to render the lining and insert completely detachable.

The garment may be made in the form of an underskirt, as indicated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, or the upper portion may be added to form a complete slip, without disturbing the lining, or the insert in any manner.

The garment proper and the lining may be made of a fabric, such as cotton, rayon, or other suitable material.

The snap fasteners may be of the ball and socket type, or any other suitable type of fastener, which functions in a similar manner.

The insert may be made of one of a'number of thin sheets of transparent, translucent, or other suitable type of plastic material, which is impervious to moisture, or a thin fabric, impregnated in such a manner as to render it water-proof may be substituted therefor.

It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that my present invention is not limited to the specific details described above and shown in the drawings, and that various further modifications are possible in carrying out the features of the invention without departing from they spirit and scope of the appended claims. v

What I claim is:

1. In an undergarment formed of a front and rear section, a lining mounted inside the rear section, means attaching the side edges of said lining to the rear section, a plurality of snap fastener elements attached to the upper edge of the rear section of the undergarment, a plurality of mating snap fastener elements attached to the upper edge of the lining, in substantial alignment with the rear section upper edge fastener elements, said snap fasteners removably attaching the upper edge of the lining to the rear section, a water-repellent insert interposed between the lining and the undergarment rear section, the upper edge of said insert having a plurality of openings therein in substantial alignment with the adjacent rear section upper edge snap fastener elements, a fiat ring-shaped reinforcement attached to the liner around each of said openings, the projecting end of the fastener elements attached to the rear section upper edge fitting through the liner openings and the reinforcements surrounding them to clamp the insert between the fastener elements connecting the upper edge of the lining to the garment rear section, a plurality of snap fastener elements attached to the bottom edge of the lining, a plurality of mating snap fastener elements attached to the bottom edge of the insert in substantial alignment with the lining bottom edge snap fastener elements, said snap fastener elements removably attaching the bottom edge of the insert to the lining.

2. In an undergarment formed of a front and rear section, a lining mounted inside the rear section, means attaching the side edges of the lining to the rear section, a plurality of tabs attached to the upper edge of said lining, a plurality of tabs attached to the upper edge of the rear section in substantial alignment with the tabs attached to the lining, a snap fastener element attached to each of said tabs attached to the rear section upper edge, a mating fastener element attached to each of the tabs attached to the lining, said snap fasteners removably attaching the upper edge of the lining to the rear section, a water-repellent insert interposed between said lining and the rear section, the upper edge of said insert being clamped between the snap fastener sections, connecting the upper edge of the lining to the rear section, a plurality of tabs attached to the bottom edge of the rear section of the garment, and a snap fastener element attached to each of said rear section bottom edge tabs, the mating fastener elements being attached to the bottom edge of the insert, said fasteners removably supporting the bottom edge of said insert.

3. In an undergarment formed of a front and rear section, a lining mounted inside the rear section, means attaching the side edges of the lining to the rear section, a plurality of snap fastener elements attached to the upper edge of the rear section, of the garment, a plurality of mating snap fastener elements attached to the upper edge of the lining, in substantial alignment with the rear section upper edge snap fastener elements, said snap fasteners removably attaching the upper edge of the lining to the rear section, a Water-repellent insert interposed between said lining and the rear section, the upper edge of said insert having a plurality of openings formed therein in substantial alignment with the lining fasteners, the projecting end of one set of said fastener elements fitting through said openings to clamp the insert between the fastener sections, connecting the upper edge of the lining to the rear section, and a plurality of snap fastener elements, attached to the bottom edge of the lining, the mating fastener elements being attached to the bottom edge of the insert, in substantial alignment with the lining bottom edge fastener elements, said fasteners removably supporting the bottom edge of said insert.

In an undergarment formed of a front and rear section, a lining mounted inside the rear section, means attaching the side edges of the lining to the rear section, a plurality of tabs attached to the upper edge of said lining, a plurality of tabs attached to the upper edge of the rear section in substantial alignment with the tabs attached to the lining, a snap fastener element attached to each of said tabs attached to the rear section, a mating snap fastener element attached to each of the tabs attached to the lining, said fasteners removably attaching the upper edge of the lining to the rear section, a water-repellent insert interposed between said lining and the rear section, the upper edge of said insert being clamped between the upper edge snap fastener sections, connecting the upper edge of the lining to the rear section, a plurality of tabs attached to the bottom edge of the rear section of the garment, a snap fastener element, attached to each of said tabs attached to the rear section bottom edge, the mating fastener elements being attached to the bottom edge of the insert, in substantial alignment with the fastener elements attached to the rear section bottom edge tabs, said fasteners removably supporting the bottom edge of said insert,
