Description

s. MOSCOW. LIGHT PROOF AND SANITARY SKIRT. APPLICATION FILED MAY 29, 1916- Patented June 5, 1917.
A TTORNEYS STELLA MOSCOW, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
LIGHT-PROOF AND SANITARY SKIRT.
mascot.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 29, 1916. Serial No. 100,529.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STELLA Moscow, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of' the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Light-Proof and Sanitary Skirt, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an improved skirt and particularly to an improved arrangement of parts whereby athin skirt body may be produced and an opaque protecting member arranged adjacent thereto for preventing the passage of light.
The object in view is to provide an improved skirt with an opaque member and also with protecting means both front and back.
Another object of the invention is to provide in a thin skirt a protecting separated lining therefor which is formed of opaque material in order to give the proper eifect to the skirt and at the same time prevent the passage of light.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an arrangement of protecting members both front and rear which may be connected and disconnected and which will not interfere with the action of the light protecting member.
' as for instance, an underskirt, which may be made from thin material and through which the light penetrates readily. In order to secure the proper effect of this material and yet prevent the passage of light, an auxiliary skirt or protecting member 2 is provided which is connected to the waist band 3 of skirt 1 by the same threads which form the waist band and extends from thence down to a line 4 where it is secured by a line of stitching to the skirt 1. A lower section 5 is connected with the skirt 1 at line 4 and loosely extends-to a point somewhat above the bottom ofthe skirt, as shown more partlcul arly 1n F1gs. 1 and 2, the lower section 5 being loose except at the opposite edges 6 where it is stitched into the seam provided in making the. skirt 1. This is desirable in order to prevent the protecting member or auxlliary skirt from working up and thereby preventing its proper use.
In addition to preventing the passage of hght rays one, or if desired two. protecting members 7, as shown in Fig.4, may be used, the same being formed from rubber or other suitable material having a reinforcing strip 8 at the upper end on Which snap buttons 9 are mounted which engage the snap buttons 10 on the upper section of member 2. In order to allow members 7 to be readily inserted and removed member 2 on line 4 is not stitched from point 11 to point 12, as shown in Fig. 1, but is held in place between said points by suitable snap. buttons 13. It is evident the hooks and eyes or other securing means may be substituted for the snap buttons. .By connecting the protecting rubber 7 as just described the same may be worn either interiorly or exteriorly of the member 2. As shown in Fig. 2 the protecting member 7 may be arranged at the back or at the back and front as desired. Whenever it becomes unnecessary to use these protecting members 7 they may be readily removed and the skirt will then have the usual appearance of a skirt or underskirt, according to the particular use of which the device is made.
In addition to the protecting members it will be observed from Figs. -1 and 2 that an elastic member 14 is provided which puckers the skirt in the rear and thereby reduces the waist line or, rather, causes the waist band to properly lit a person wearing the skirt.
What I claim is:
1. In an underskirt of the character described, a body, an opaque skirt member having an opening at the front and back, a protecting sheet arranged below each of said openings, and means for connecting said protecting sheet to said opaque skirt member.
An underskirt, comprising a body, an auxiliary skirt member connected to said body, said auxiliary skirt member being connected adjacent the top and also at a point spaced from the top, said skirt member at said point being open, for part of the distance at the front and at the back, a prov Patented June 5, 1917.
tecting sheet arranged at the front and back, said protecting sheets being adapted to be passed through said openings,' a line of fastening means connected to said auxiliary 5 skirt member at said openings, a line of fastening means connected to the upper edge of each of said sheets, the fastening means I on the sheets interlocking with the mg means on the auxiliary skirt member so as to hold the sheet properly in position, 10 and fastening means for closing the open sections of sand auxiliary skirt member.
