The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in shower heads and more particularly to mean for holding a cake of soluble material in the shower head for dispensing a scented or medicated solution with the water from the shower head.

An important object of this invention is to provide a holder for a cake of scented, disinfectant or other soluble substance in contact with the water from a shower head to thus mix the active substance with the water for discharge from the shower head when the shower is in use.

A further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efficient and reliable in operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view illustrating one embodiment of the invention;

Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional View, taken on a line 2-2 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is an enlarged transverse sectional view, taken on a 1ine 3--3 of Figure 1;

Figure 4 is a side elevational view of a modified construction;

Figure 5 is an enlarged vertical sectional view, taken on a line 5-5 of Figure 4; and,

Figure 6 is a transverse sectional view, taken on a line 5--6 of Figure 5.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, and first with respect to the form of invention illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, the numeral 5 designates a shower head of hollow construction and having spray openings or perforations 6 in its bottom I. The bottom 1 is formed with an internal annular shoulder 8 forming a relatively shallow recess 9 in which a cake of soluble material, in the form of a disk I0, is closely fitted against the shoulder to hold the cake immovable therein. The cake I is formed with a plurality of vertical passages II held in registry with the openings 6.

A door I2 is hinged at one end, as at I3, at one side of the shower head to permit the placing of the cake I0 therein and the free end of the door is secured in a closed position by a conventional type of catch mechanism I I.

In the form of invention illustrated in Figures 4 to 6 inclusive the numeral I5 designates a cup-like holder which may be constructed of plastic, metal or other suitable material and is also provided at its bottom with a plurality of openings or perforations I6. An annular internal shoulder I1 is formed in the bottom of the holder I5 forming a substantially hollow recess I8 in which the cake of soluble material I 9 is closely fitted, the cake also being formed with vertical openings or passages 20 held in alignment with the openings or perforations I6.

As water passes through the shower head and contacts the cake of soluble material the latter will become dissolved to mix with the Water as the same is discharged through the openings or perforations at the bottom of the shower head.

The cake II! or I9 may be composed of soap or other suitable soluble substance containing a scented or perfumed ingredient, disinfectant or the like for mixing with the water as the same is discharged from the shower head.

In View of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in the art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. In a shower device, a chamber having a fiat bottom provided with spray openings therein and an annular internal shoulder on the bottom of the chamber forming a recess adapted to receive a cake of soluble material held immovable on said bottom in the recess against the shoulder, said cake having vertical passages registering with th openings of the chamber.

2. An attachment for shower heads comprising a cup-like holder having a perforated bottom and adapted to receive a cake of soluble material having vertical passages registering with the perforations, an internal annular shoulder in the bottom of the holder forming a recess in which the cake is tightly fitted to hold the cake immovable, said holder having a reduced neck on its upper end sleeved over the shower head, an upper internal annular shoulder in the neck seating said head, and a, plurality of resilient fingers projecting upwardly from the holder and adapted to frictionally grip the shower head to hold the latter sealed against the upper shoulder, said fingers having lower end embedded in the upper end 4 of said holder outwardly of said neck and shoulder.
