Description

1953 s. M. PERKINS NO-SLIDE SCARF PIN-COMB SET Filed July 5, 1950 INVENTOR. SUSIE M. PERKINS AT TOD. N EYS Patented Aug. 18, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE N O-SLIDE SCARF PIN-MB SET Susie M. Perkins, McPherson, Kans.
Application July 5, 1950, Serial No. 172,055
1 Claim.
This invention relates to scarf-fastening devices, and more particularly to a comb device arranged to hold a scarf in place over the wearer's hair.
A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved scarf-fastening device which is very simple in construction, which is easy to use, and which provides a very convenient and readily accessible means for securing a scarf to the wearers hair.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved scarf fastener of the comb type which is very inexpensive to manufacture, which is neat in appearance, which is sturdy in construction, and which provides a reliable means of fastening a scarf to the wearers hair.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a pictorial view illustrating a scarf secured to a womans hair by the use of an improved fastener constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged front elevational view of the improved scarf fastener employed in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional detail View taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, and more particularly to Figures 2 and 3, the fastener is designated generally at II, and comprises a comb I2, to the back of which is secured a flat, elongated strip of soft, penetrable material, shown at I3, said material being, for example, felt or the like. The strip I3 may be formed at one longitudinal edge thereof with a groove I4 which receives a rib I5 formed on the back of the comb and which may be secured to said rib by the use of suitable cement or the like. As shown in Figure 2, the strip I3 is coextensive in length with the comb I2 and, as shown in Figure 3, the strip I3 is substantially coplanar with said comb. Designated at I5 is a pin which may be inserted through the strip I3 in the manner shown in Figure 2, said pin being substantially longer than the strip I3.
In using the device, the comb is first inserted in the wearer's hair and the scarf, shown at I6 in Figure 1, is placed over the wearers hair with the front edge of the scarf overlying the penetrable 2 strip I3 of the fastener II. The front edge portion of the scarf I6 is then secured to the strip I3 by means of the pin I5 by inserting the pin through the scarf and the strip I3 in the manner shown in Figure 1. With the upper front edge portion of the scarf I6 secured as above described, the remaining portions of the scarf may be disposed in the usual manner around the wearers head, and the ends of the scarf may be knotted, as shown in Figure 1 at IT, in the usual manner.
The fastener II may be made in any desired color to match the color of the wearers hair or the wearer's costume, and the pin I5 may likewise be furnished in desired colors.
While a specific embodiment of an improved scarf fastener has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention except as defined by the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A scarf fastener comprising a comb having a back formed on its edge opposed to the teeth thereof with a centrally disposed longitudinally extending rib, and a relatively flat elongated body of soft penetrable material having its bottom edge formed with a channel for socketing th rib and having a convex top edge, said body being coextensive in length with the back of the comb and having opposing convex sides of substantially larger radius of curvature than said top edge, said sides protruding outwardly from the sides of the back of the comb.
