Abstract

1,089,789. Hair pieces. PALBAR CO. Ltd. Oct. 7, 1966, No. 45001/66. Heading A4V. Means for attaching and holding a hair piece on the head of the user comprise a band having a portion of non-extensible or substantially non-extensible fabric or other material and gripping means for engagement in the hair of the user attached to flexible portions so as to be extensible to permit lengthwise displacement of the gripping means between an extended position and a gripping position in which the band extends over the head of the user with the gripping means embedded in the natural hair. Suitably the gripping means 2 consist of a plurality of prongs which may be made from a continuous length of wire or from synthetic plastics material and which are arranged side by side, each extending lengthwise in the direction of the band and having at their outer ends loops 4, whereby they may be secured to the band by stitching 5. Optionally the band 1, which conveniently is made from elastic or other flexible material, extends through a sleeve 6, being secured at an intermediate point by stitching 7, the sleeve having its inner side 9 made from a material having a roughened surface or nap of the kind which permits a similar material to be held face to face therewith simply by pressing and which therefore increases the grip of the band in the hair of the user. Conventional hairpieces made by attaching natural or synthetic hair to wire formers are attached to the outer surface of the band or to the corresponding surface of the sleeve, if present, by stitching.
