This invention relates to a comb, and more particularly to a folding comb for dressing hair imwhich the several" parts thereof maybe sen-- arated so as to permit'the thorough washmg and cleaning of the. teeth.

In assemblingthe comb sections H and I2 ordcrtoform a comb lflg thesections H and 2 are: disposed oppositely to one another so that the hinge portion I8 of one comb section engages the hinge portion I9 of the other comb section. Pivot pins 20 are then extended through the registering hinge portions I8 and I9 in order to rockably secure the sections II andIZ to each other. As seen in Figure 4, the thickened tooth I I of the section I2 will be disposed in line with the portion of the spine I3 of the section II which extends beyond the last tooth I6. The teeth are so disposed along the length of the spines [3 of each of the sections II and I2 as to be disposed in alternating relationship. That is, when the sections II and 12 are pivoted together into the position illustrated in Figures 1, 2 and 3, the teeth I5 of the section II will lie between the teeth l5 of the section [2. This will provide a comb having relatively thick teeth on the opposite ends thereof, and a plurality of relatively closely spaced inter- 4 the teeth 28 of the other section. 24 and 25, for maintaining the pair of sections in the confronting position illustrated by Figure 8.

When it is desired to clean the comb formed in either of the embodiments of this invention described above, the pair of sections are pivoted away from each other and it is a simple matter to thoroughly clean between the relatively widely spaced apart teeth [5 and 28. When the sections are folded together, the teeth, which engage bemediate teeth l5. Since the two sections H and-- 12 are identical in configuration, it is apparent that the entire comb may be formed with a single mold or die. If the comb is to be formed of a plastic or similar substance, the use of a single mold to form the two sections of the comb, will result in a considerable saving in the cost of manufacture. Further, the lateral off-set of the teeth HI, [5' and IS with respect to the related spine l3 provides for the co-planar arrangement of the teeth on the two comb sections when the latter are swung together (Fig. 3), and the upward continuations of the teeth to form ribs on the spines l3 ensure adequate strength for the teeth without increasing the bulk of the comb.

Referring to Figures 6, '7 and 8, a modification of this invention is there disclosed. In Figures 6 and 7, a blank is illustrated from which the completed assembled comb in Figure 8 may be formed. The blank A includes an elongated spine forming portion 2| having an indentation or reduced area cross section 22, extending across the middle thereof. A relatively thick tooth 26 is formed integral with one end of the spine forming portion 2| and includes a hinge section 24. A complementary hinge section is formed upon the opposite end 26 of the spine forming portion 2|. Immediately to one side of the groove or reduced area section 22, a second thickened tooth 21 extends from the spine 2|. The tooth 21 is disposed on the side of the groove 22 towards space provided between the teeth 23 and the.

In each of the embodiments described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, a

From the foregoing it is evident that there has been provided herein a hingeddouble comb having a pair of comb sections, each of thesections including an elongated spine member,, a plurality of spaced parallel teeth formed integral with the spine member, the teeth being 011 set laterally relative to said spine member and,

having the top ends thereof coextensive with the top edge of the spine member, hinge means being provided which connect the comb sections together at the spine members thereof, the teeth of one of the comb sections being so disposed therealong as to engage between the teeth of v the other of the comb sections when the comb sections are in an operative position.

Having thus described the various modifications of this invention, what is claimed is:

A hinged double comb comprising a pair of comb sections, each of said sections including an elongated spine member, a plurality of spaced parallel teeth formed integral with said spine member, said teeth being off-set laterally relative to said spine member and having the top ends thereof coextensive with the top edge of said spine member, and hinge means connecting i said comb sections together at said spine members thereof, the teeth on one of said comb sections being so disposed therealong as to engage between the teeth of the other of said comb sections when said comb sections are in an operative position.
