(01. z-so) 1 Claim.
This invention relates to an improved removable moisture-proof protective cover for turndown shirt collars.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple device of the above kind adapted to fit over and completely cover both surfaces of the turndown and neck band portions of the collar to effectively remain in place on the collar and prevent soiling thereof.
Another object is to provide a durable device of the above kind made of thin, flexible, transparent plastic material so that the shirt collar will show therethrough and the presence of the device will not be objectionably conspicuous.
Further objects and features of the invention will appear from the following description when considered with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the present device in use on a shirt collar.
Figure 2 is a plan View showing the two members which are joined to form the present device.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the present device in fiat or unfolded condition.
Figure 4 is an enlarged section taken on the line 4d. of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is an enlarged section taken on the line 55 of Figure 3.
Referring in detail to the drawing, A indicates an ordinary turn-down shirt collar having a neck band portion 5 and a turn-down portion 6, and adapted to have the ends of the portion 5 buttoned together at the front. When the collar is attached to the shirt, one end of portion 5 usually has a button-hole to receive a button 6 attached to the other end thereof.
The present protector is in the form of a pocket 13 conforming to the shape of and adapted to fit over and completely cover both surfaces of the collar portions 5 and 6, and having openings '1 through which the button 6 may be passed. The pocket B is composed of two sections or members 8 and 9 each of the same size and shape made of thin flexible transparent plastic material, and each having a. collar band portion l9 and a turndown portion I I. The companion portions of the sections 8 and 9 are seamed together at 12 along their end edges and along the free longitudinal edges of the portions l I, preferably, but not necessarily, by the application of heat and pressure, to form the pocket, wrong side out. The pocket is then turned inside out so that the seams l2 are disposed inside the pocket, as shown. The portions l9 are preferably of double thickness or composed of two layers as shown in Figure 4, one layer being integral with the portion H, and
the other reinforcin layer being separate and joined to the first layer by the application of heat and pressure. Perforations 13 are provided in the portion It of section 9 to promote ventilation. It will be apparent that the present protector may be readily applied to the collar and removed therefrom, that the entire collar is protected thereby on both sides or surfaces, and that such protector reveals the collar and presents a neat appearance when in use.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A substantially invisible wear-resisting launderable protector for both attached and detachable collars on mens shirts comprising a pocket of a size and shape conformable to the size and shape of the neck band and turn-down fold of the stated collar, said pocket being applicable to jacket over both the fold and complemental neck band, said pocket being essentially made up of two companion sections each corresponding in size and configuration to the other, said sections being constructed of transparent moisture-resistant material superimposed on each other and having their transverse ends and corresponding longitudinal edge portions, along one longitudinal side of the pocket, seamed together, the remaining two longitudinal edge portions bein unattached and providing an elongated mouth, the latter commensurate in length with the overall pocket and permitting the pocket to be applied and removed, turned inside out for laundering and otherwise conveniently handled, the neck band portion which is innermost being imperforate and the remaining neck band portion being perforated, both neck band portions having buttonholes.
