CUFF PROTECTOR.
application inea rip-rn 1e, 192e. serial no. 632,201. .y i
To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that we, VILLIAM P. ONEILL and FREDERICK T. @Amaai-Inn, citizens of the United States, residing at Rockland,
'county of Plymouth, Commonwealth of li/Iassachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in CLIEy Protectors, of which the following is' a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. Y
rllhe invention relates to a new and useful improvement in cufiA protectors. rlhe object f tector itself will not bel conspicuous, and yto,
have the edge andinside face of the protector made of soft material so thatitA will not chafe the hand or wristv o f the wearer. A further object of the invention is to make the edge andY insideffacing of material which can be readily cleansed by sponging. Y
The invention will be fully understood from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof lwill be pointed out and clearly defined in the claims at the close ofV this specification. v l v In the drawings,'Fig. l is a perspective view of` a protector embodying the invention, attached to the cui of ashirt.
2 is a plan view of the protector laid out hat beforev it is folded.
Fig. 3 is a view showing the protectorv folded in readiness te be attached to the cud of a shirt. p v y Referring now to the drawings, thereis indicated at l the outer face portion of the protector which is niade of sheet-of transparent material. rlhis transparent member l should be to a certain degree flexible, so that it can be flexed to adapt it to a cuff yet of suihcient stiffness so that it will not wrinkle but may be maintained in shape. To this end, the transparent member is preferably made of thin, transparent celluloid.
The inside fold 2 of the protector is composed of soft, smooth material, preferably rubberized cloth. This is extended to fold along the line?) over the outer edge of the transparent member l, and forms a flap l which laps a short distance onto thevface;
of the member land is secured thereto by c stitches 5. The outer edge ofthe celluloid .or transparent member will thus be coveredby the cloth. rlhere is also provided a binding 6, preferably of rubberized cloth, the samek as the member 2, which goes around the ends and the inner edge of the transparent member 1, so that the entire edge of the transparent member is protected by the'cloth and the transparent member does not come in contact at all with the hand or wrist. c l e The soft material, of which the inner fold 2 is made and of which the flap 4- and bind-` ing 6 are made, prevents chafing or scratching of the wrist and hand, such VaswouldV occur if the celluloid or other transparent material came directly in contact with the skin. The bir.lingalso prevents the ycelluloid from' breaking or getting rough Vat the edges. The material of whichV the inner fold 2 and the binding are made, being of rubberized cloth, permits them to be readily cleansedvby the use of av damp' sponge or cloth. f v 'p f At each end of the inner member 2 there is formed a buttonhole 9. When the protectorfis slippedontothe cuif'iS, as shown' in Figure l, these buttonholes may be brought into.- alignment with the buttonholes in the"- l cuff and the vcu' link l0 will be' passed through the said buttonholes in the protector as well as through the buttonholes of vthe cuff.V .l y'
Preferably'the outer or transparent memv ber l should have 11o buttonholes madejin The. heads of the linlnjhovvever, will 1t. show through the transparent material of the protector. f
Preferably there is provided a button 1l sewed `to the ybinding of the transparent member near the back corner at one end of the protector, and an elastic loop l2 is seWed to the corresponding corner of the other end of the protector, so that when the protector is in use and the cuil' is'buttoned, the said loop may be engaged with the button 11 and keep the ends of the protector at the Vinner edge drawn together the same'as the.
cuter edges which are connected by the link. In making the protector, the member l VIl V Vof transparent material'is cut'to the proper Y inthe fleXiblemeinberQ, and the button 11 and loop 12 will be attached to the binding jof the flexible member, all asV shown in Figure 2'. `Vlhenever it isVV desired .to apply the protector to a cuff it can readily Ybe folded along the line 3 and bent to the shape shown. in Figure 3.V lt can then be readily attached to the cuff, as shown `in Figurev l.
l/Vhat weV claim is:
` 'LVA cuff protector consisting of a slip over, comprising a sheet of transparent ina# terial and a sheet of cloth, the clothtat one edge lapping for a short distance onto the front face of the transparent material and secured thereto, the cloth then being folded over the front edge and onto the baci; face of the transparent material thereby forming a slip over for a cuff whereby the covering for the outer face of the cud is transparent material and the covering for the outer edge and inner face of the cuff is cloth.
2. A cuff protector consisting of av slipA over, comprising a sheet of transparent materia'l and a sheet of cloth, the cloth at one edge lapping for a short distance onto Vthe front face'of 'the transparent material and 4secured thereto, the cloth thenbeing folded overthe front edge and onto the Vback face n of the transparent material thereby forming y a slip to fit over a cuff wherebyvthe covering for the outer face of the cuff is transparent material-and the covering for the outer' edge and inner face of the cuff is cloth, the:
cloth portion of the slip over being formed with button holes at its ends corresponding with'button holes inthe cuff to receive theV cuff link. Y Y n '3. A cud protector consisting of a slip over comprising a sheet of transparent ina- Vterial-and a sheet of' cloth, the cloth at one Yedg'ge lapping for ashort distance ontothe sccured'thereto, the cloth then being folded over the front edge and onto the back face of the transparent material thereby forming a slip to fit over a cup whereby the covering Y' for the outer'face ofthe cuff is transparent material andthe covering for the outer edge "button holes at its ends corresponding with iront face of thetransparent material andk and inner face of the cuff is'cloth, the 'cloth portion of the slip over being formed with button holes in the cuff toV receivevthefcuff linlr, and a cloth binding for the ends and rear edge portion of the transparent material.
A.' cuff protector consisting of a slip over, comprising a sheet of transparent celluloid and a vsheet of-rubberized'clotl'i,
the cloth at one edge lappingfor a short ,Y
distance onto the front face of the celluloid and secured thereto, the cloth then being folded over the front edge and ontol the back face of the celluloid thereby forming a slip to fit over a cuff whereby the coveringV for the outer face of the cuff is transparent celluloid and the covering for the cuter edge land inner face of the cuff, is rubberized cloth. i
5. A cuff protector consisting of a slip over, comprising' a zsheet of transparent celluloid and Aa sheet of rubberized cloth, the cloth at one edge lapping for a shortV distance onto the frontl face of the'celluloid and secured thereto, the cloth then being folded i over the lfront edge and onto the backface of the celluloid therebyv forming for the outer face of the cuff is'transparent eoY Q5 v a slip to fit over a cuil:1 whereby the covering r celluloid and the covering for the outer f n edge and inner face of thecuff is rubberized cloth, the cloth portion of the slipfbeing formed with button holes to 'receive the cuff link. Y
6. A cud protector consisting of ay slip over,` comprising a sheet oftransparent cel-Y luloid and a sheet of rubberized cloth, thecloth-at one edge lappingV fora short dis-V Y and secured' thereto, the clothV then being` .tance ontov the frontV face of the vcelluloid folded over Vthe front'edge and onto the back face ofthe celluloidrthereby forming a slip to fit over a cud whereby the covering for the outer face ofthe cuff isftransparent celluloid and the covering for the outer edge and innerfa'ce of the cuff is rubberizedcloth, the cloth portion of thev slip being formed with button holes to receive thebuf link, and a rubberized clothlbinding for the Y ends and rear edge' portioirof transparent celluloid. i i f j In testimony whereof we affix our signatures.
