Be it known that I, Ismonn PAN'ES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, county of Bronx, and Stateof New York, have invented a new and Improved Brassiere, of which thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description. i p

This invention relates to clothing andparticularly to the improved 'combinedbrassiere and camisole andhas' for an object to present a construction wherein the garment may be quickly and easily applied or removed by i the person using the garment.

Another object of the'invention is to pro vide a 'brassiere with the securing means spaced from the sides a suiiicient distance to allow easy operation by the person using the" device, while at the same time presenting means which will hide orcover the securing members. I

Astill further object of the invention is to provide a brassiere having an opening near the front and a plurality of spaced rows of securing members together with a flap fastening member for covering the securing means so as to present a continuous smooth surface at the'front of the garment. j

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals 1 indicates the body of the brassiere which is provided with shoulder straps 2 and 3 of any desired kind, In order to present a combined brassiere and camisole structure, the bodyl is'madeof strong material but of comparatively ornamentalmaterial to give the desired ornamental effect of a camisole while the strength of the material will permititto act as a brassiere for properly shaping up the person using the device. The garment illustrated includes a section 5 secured to one end of the body 1 along a substantially vertical line indicated at and extending forwardly in such manner as to be adapted to be overlapped by the other end portion'ofthe body when the garment is in closed position, as illustrated in Fig. 3.

The overlapping end portion of the body 1 is denoted in the drawings by the numeral 6. The flap 5 serves as a connecting member, as will presently appear.

In using the brassiere it is necessary to provide comparatively strong securingme-ans for holding the brassiere clamped reasonably tight to thebody and in order to secure this result a strip 7 having hooks 8 is secured to body 1 an appreciable distance back of the free end of the portion 6 thereof, said hooks co-acting with the rows of eyes 9 and 10 preferably provided on suitable strips connected to the section' 5. When the camisole is first put on, the hooks 8 may with may be snapped on the stud 13. secured to the body 1 at a convenient point under the arm. This will effectively hold the por tion 6 in place and give a smooth continuous appearance to the garment on the front and sides. The back of the garment is prefer ably made of the same material as the front and is of suitable shape.

In case the garment is somewhat loose after hooks 8 have been engaged with the eyes 9 they are moved over to eyes 10 which will draw in the garment more tightly. The tab 11 isthen placed in position as just described for holding the portion 6 in place. It will be noted that the portion 6 of the body is used principally as an ornamental covering for the section 5 and associated parts and, consequently does not need any strong securing means for holding the same in place, though the hooks and

8, 9 and 10 are very desirable because considerable strain is brought to bear thereon. In the drawing only two rows of eyes are shown but more could be provided if desired or even less, though ordinarily an adjustment straps 2 and 3 may be disengaged from the front of thebody 1 if removably connected therewith and the body placed in position and-hooks and eyes engaged, If the shoulder straps 2 and3 are connected perma nently to the body 1 the person usually places one arm through shoulder strap 3 and then moves the other strap over the head to a proper position on the shoulder after which the garment is pulled in tight as desired and th desired eyes engaged with the various hooks 8. 12 and 13. Preferably there is only one snap fastener as the elastic member ll will accommodate itseif to different positions of the rows of hooks 8 though if desired a number of studs 13 could be provided or a number of independent complete snap fasteners.

A garment of the character described comprising a body having eparate side edges and being adapted to be arranged to encircle the body of a wearer so that the side edge of the back portion thereof is positioned under one arm of the wearer and the side edge of the front portion thereof is positioned adjacent to the first edge, a section secured to the body along the first side edge thereof and extending: toward the front beyond the second side edge-of the body in underlying relation to the adjacent portion of the latter, a sub-- stantially vertical row of fastening elements connected to said extending section adjacent to the free end thereof, a row of fastening elements attached to the under side of the portion of the body overlamging said section at an appreciable distance from the free end of said portion of the body and being engageable with the first row of: matching elements, and means for holding s id overlapping portion of th body in place over said extending section and i position to cover said fastening elemen I said means comprising an elastic tab atthe tached to the overlapping portion of the body and having a fastening element thereon and a cooperating fastening element on the back portion of the body.

2. A garment of the character described comprising a body having separate side edges and being adapted to be arranged to encircle the body of a wearer so that the side edge of the back portion thereof is positioned under one arm of th wearer and the side edge of the front portion thereof is positioned adjacent to the first edge a section secured to the body along the fi 1" side edge thereof and extending toward th front beyond the second side edge of t" body in underlyingrelation to the adj acent portion of the latter, a row of fastening elements connecteo to said extending section adjacent to the free end thereof and row of fastening elements attached to the under side of the portion of the body overlapping said section at an appreciabledistance from the free end thereof and being engageable with the said row of fastening elements.

Jr garment of the character dcscribeth adapted to encircle the body of a wearer and opening along a substantially vertical line located approximately midway between the vertical median line of the garment front and a vertical line extending under one arm of the wearer, said germ ent includ ing an overlying flap portion extending from said vertical line of opening toward the vertical line under the arm of the wearer and terminating adjacent to the latter means for releasably holding the garment closed along said line of opening, and other means for holding the flap portion closed, whereby the garment when in fully closed position will be smooth and {unbroken across the front.
