This invention relates to a coat hanger cover.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a cover adapted to be fitted over a coat hanger to provide widened portions for the support of the shoulder portions of the coat so that the coat will hang true and be adequately supported upon the hanger.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide a coat hanger cover which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, formed of a single piece, adapted to be fitted upon the coat hanger, of pleasing appearance and eiiicient in operation.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the coat hanger cover.

Fig. 2 is a top plan view.

Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the hanger cover mounted upon a hanger with a coat supported therefrom, the view being taken generally on line 3--3 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the garment hanger and of the cover and as viewed on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

Referring now to the figures, I represents a cover embodying the features of the present invention. This cover is open on the bottom to receive a coat hanger I I having a hook [2. The upper edge of the coat hanger will rest on the under side of the top of the cover l0 and the hook IE will extend through top slot I3. The slot I3 is provided in a neck portion I4 about which the collar of the coat is shaped. The inner face of the cover is substantially straight, as indicated at i5, while the rear face is rounded, as indicated at I6. The ends of the cover are rounded as indicated at H to extend under the shoulder portions of the coat. The neck portion I4 is thus inwardly offset so as to provide adequate support for the rear of the collar and back of the coat. The shoulder portions of the cover are indicated at I9 and 20.

It will be apparent that when the cover is applied to the hanger that adequate support is had for the coat at the shoulders and the shoulders of the coat will be well kept.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.

Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:

A coat hanger cover comprising an elongated hollow member open at the bottom and having front and rear walls, said hollow member being adapted to receive a coat hanger having oppositely disposed side arms and said member having a centrally disposed slot for receiving the hook of the said hanger, the inner top face of the said member which extends in opposite directions from the slot being formed to engage the upper faces of the said side arms, the said front wall being substantially fiat, a raised neck portion about said slot, and said rear wall being offset in a direction opposite to the front wall.
