Definitions

  • This invention relates to a coat hanging attachment for use on regular wire type suit hangers. It has for its main objects to provide such an attachment that will be highly efficient for the purpose intended, simple in structure, comparatively cheap to manufacture, easy to use, and extremely durable. At the present time there are various kinds of attachments being used in combination with the regular standard type of wire suit hangers but they have not proven entirely satisfactory in that they do not properly take care of the shoulder portion of a coat. The present attachment will absolutely overcome such objection.

This invention relates to a coat hanging attachment for use on regular wire type suit hangers. It has for its main objects to provide such an attachment that will be highly efficient for the purpose intended, simple in structure, comparatively cheap to manufacture, easy to use, and extremely durable. At the present time there are various kinds of attachments being used in combination with the regular standard type of wire suit hangers but they have not proven entirely satisfactory in that they do not properly take care of the shoulder portion of a coat. The present attachment will absolutely overcome such objection.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the drawings and description.
The present invention is an improvement upon hanger attachments shown in my co-pending applications under Serial Number 85,327 filed April 4, 1949, now Patent No. 2,597,509, dated May 20, 1952 and under Serial Number 90,966 filed May 2, 1949, now Patent No. 2,601,442, dated June 24, 1952 and under Serial Number 120,434 filed October 10, 1949 now abandoned.
By referring generally to the drawings, part of this application, it will be observed that Fig. l is a top plan view of the coat hanger attachment mounted upon a regular wire suit hanger; Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the coat hanger attachment mounted upon a regular wire suit hanger; Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the coat hanger attachment and upper wire portion of a regular wire suit hanger; Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig. 4 showing part of the coat attachment, part of upper wire, and one of the integral ribs and notches therein.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the attachment comprises a shouldershaped member I having integral ribs 2 with notches 3 therein, and depending integral extensions 4 and 5 with slots 6 and 1 therein, and adapted to fit upon the upper wire portion 8 of a regular wire type suit hanger.
From the foregoing it will appear that in order to use the attachment it is only necessary to place the coat attachment upon the upper portion of a regular standard type wire suit hanger with the wire 8 in two of the notches 3, and the extensions 4 and 5 positioned astraddle of the same upper wire portion. With the attachment thus mounted the assembly is ready for long and satisfactory use.
The attachment may be made of any material suitable for the purpose, but I prefer to use plastic. Also the attachment may be made in different sizes and capacities.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limit same to the exact and precise details of structure, but reserve the right to make all modifications and changes so long as they remain Within the scope of the invention and the following claim.
Having described my invention I claim:
A. coat hanging attachment of the character described for use in combination with a wire type suit hanger comprising; a stilt piece of thin material having a neck portion and shoulder portions shaped similar to the rear neck portion and adjacent shoulder portions of a human body, two integral ribs that extend in a substantially vertical direction on the inner face of the neck portion, each of said ribs having a plurality of notches therein that extend in a horizonta1 direction, an integral depending extension on the under face of each shoulder portion, each extension having a slot therein, two of said notches in the ribs and said slots in the depending extensions being adapted to fit upon the upper wire portion of a wire type suit hanger when the attachment is mounted thereon.
