Description

J 1952 R. H. ROBERTS 2,599,199
GARMENT DRIER Filed March 2. 1949 IN V EN TOR.
L/ filorney Patented June 3, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GARMENT DRIER 7 Ruth H. Roberts, Whitefish Bay, Wis. Application March 2, 1949, Serial No. 79,166
3 Claims. (01. 22369) This invention relates to a garment dryer adapted to retain a garment in shape while drying.
In dryers of this type heretofore devised the garment is usually stretched and held in shape by pins or other similar means spaced about the periphery of the garment. If there is any tendency for the garment to shrink, the central portion of the garment will shrink and pull the edges out of shape. Furthermore, such'dryers are made for a particular size of garment and do not give satisfactory results on garments of a different size.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a garment dryer adapted to retain a garment, or the like, in shape during drying, which will prevent uneven tension in the threads of the garment.
Another object is to provide a garment dryer which is adapted to retain a garment, or the like, while drying, which will retain all parts of the garment in shape.
Another object is to provide a frame to retain a garment in shape while drying which will insure even drying.
A further object is to provide a frame to retain a garment in shape which will insure an even flow of air around the garment.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a, frame to dry a garment, or the like, which is readily adaptable to any size garment.
A still further object is to provide a frame which can be folded for convenientstorage.
A still further object is to provide a frame to dry a garment, or the like, which will form an adequate support for the garment at all points thereon.
Still other objects will become apparent upon considering the following specification, which, when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, illustrate a preferred example of the invention.
In the drawings illustrating the invention:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the frame with a sweater in place thereon; V
Fig. 2 is a partial cross-section taken on the line 2-.2 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows; and
Fig. 3 is an end view of the frame showing the locking lever.
Referring to the drawings, and particularly to Fig. 1, the garment dryer comprises a rectangular frame composed of two halves l and H joined together by hinges l2l2 which enables the garment dryer to be folded for storage. Locks 15-45 are provided in each side of the frame and engage in matching slots in the exterior of the frame to retain the frame extended.
The frame Ill-ll may be made of molded plastic if desired and have embedded therein a 2 pair of screens |8-I8, one screen in each half of the frame.
The screens I8-l8 have outstanding pins 20 fixed thereto at regular and close intervals throughout the area of the screens.
The pins 20 are adapted to impale a garment on each of the pins falling within the periphery of the garment, so that the garment is retained at close intervals and no distortion of the garment occurs during drying.
Since the dryer is made of wire netting or screen, air may reach the garment from both sides during the drying period to insure uniform drying.
It will be understood that the hereinbefore described form of the invention is to be taken merely as a preferred embodiment thereof and that various changes in size, shape and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
That which is new and is desired to be secured by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A garment dryer of the character described, comprising, a frame, a screen held in said frame, a plurality of pins fixed at close intervals to said screen throughout the area thereof and adapted to impale the garment at close intervals throughout its area to insure even drying.
2. A garment dryer of the character described comprising, a frame, a wire mesh mounted in said frame, and a plurality of impaling pins fixed on the intersections of the wires of the mesh at predetermined intervals and extending at right angles to the plane of the mesh, said pins bein adapted to impale a garment at intervals throughout its area to hold it in shape during drying.
3. A garment dryer of the character described comprising, a frame, a wire mesh mounted in said frame, and a plurality of pins fixed on said mesh throughout the area thereof at the intersection of the wires of the mesh and adapted to impale a garment during drying thereof.
