Description

April 22, 1930. KNOX 1,755,605
GLOVEDRIER Filed. June 3, 1927 INVENTOR.
Patented Apr. 22, 1930 ROBERT KNOX, or ronoivro, oN'rAnro, CANADA stove Dams Application-I filed June 3,1927. Serial No. 196,189.
gloves may be effectively dried without shrinkage, and which may be cheaply and ruggedly manufactured.
A further object of the invention is that of providing a glove drier which may be readily stored, or, in use, properly suspended from a suitable support.
Reference is had to the attached sheet of drawings illustrating several embodiments of the present invention, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan View of a glove drier embodying the improved construction of the present invention; and Fig. 2 shows an optional form of glove drier.
In these views the numeral 5 indicates the body of the. drier which may be of any suitable material, preferably wood, and the lower end of which terminates in finger portions 6 to be inserted one within each of the fingers of a glove; these portions being sufficiently spaced from each other so that air may freely circulate between the adjacent glove fingers.
It will be noted that the fingers are arranged so as to provide in aggregate what might be termed a wedge, and the drier body, immediately to the rear of the finger portion,
is rounded as at 7. Thus the drier is readily insertable into a. glove, the arrangement of the fingers serving to distend the wrist and I body portions thereof, and the curved edges of the hand portion serving, as the glove is slipped into place on the drier, to' retain the 'samesnugly with the parts thereof distended. The body of the drier may be formed with a series of perforations as at 8 so as to provide for the passage of air through the glove bod Vgith a view to supporting the drier the upper end thereof is formed, with a slot, which, as in Fig. 1, may extend inwardly as at 9 and terminate in an upwardly-extending portion 10, this slot being curved throughout its entire length. In Fig. 2 an angular slot has been illustrated, terminating in an up- 0 wardly-projecting portion 11. In each of these views it will be apparent that a suitable supporting member may be positioned, as has been indicated in dotted lines, in order to suspend the drier therefrom, detachment of the latter from the suspending element being readily effected. By means of a device embodying this invention a most efficient drier is provided for gloves of woven texture without danger of the latter shrinking during the drying opera-' tion.
. The device may be readily suspended from a supporting member while the glove is drying, and detached therefrom. In this connection it will be appreciated that, due to avoiding use of a metal eyelet or similar structure for suspending the drier, the danger of rust spots is eliminated; and, furthermore, when the drier is not in use a number of them may be stacked in compact form, pre-' venting danger of warping.
Thus, among others, the several objects specifically aforementioned are achieved, and it is to be understood that various modifications of structure might be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. As an article of manufacture, a glove drier, including a substantially flat bod having an enlargement provided with five fingerlike extensions formed about one end thereof and having a centre line disposed symmetrically with respect to said five fingers, said body having a portion extending away-from said enlargement in the opposite direction of said fingers, such extension being provided with a plurality of perforations disposed along saidcentre line, and provided with a slot at the side of the centre line and extending toward the fingers and to the centre line and along the centre line in a direction away from the fingers, thereby forming a shoulder and having a centre line disposed symmetrically with respect to said five fingers, said body having a portion extending away from said enlargement in the opposite direction of said fingers and provided with a slot com-V mencing at the side of the centre line and extending toward the fingers and to the centre line and along the centre line in a direction away from the fingers thereby forming a shoulder to prevent disengagement from its support. 1 i P In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, r
ROBERT KNOX.
