Description

Oct. 28, 1941.
B. M. KATZ HOT PAD Filed April l, 1940 In ventor Ju m n M Dm A tiomey Patented Oct. 28, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOT PAD Bessie M. Katz, Mount Carn'icl, Pa.
Application April 1, 1940, SerialvNo. 327,336
, 1 Clam.
This invention relates to a pad for picking up hot articles, the general object of the invention being to provide the pad with a hand receiving pocket with the parts so formed and arranged that the hand can be easily and quickly put in the pocket and then manipulated to pick up hot articles by the pad without danger of burning the hand.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference Will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the -several views, and in which:
Figure l is a view looking toward the rear side of the pad with the hand in the pocket thereof.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
As shown in these views the pad P includes a filling I of any suitable material and front and rear cover parts 2 which enclose the Lfilling and said cover parts are sewn together at their outer edges and a strip is turned over said edges and the parts sewn together as shown at 3. Also a sheet 4 has its edges sewn to portions of the pad with said edges extending under the strip 5 which encloses the edges of the parts and said sheet is of less area than the pad so as to form an edge portion 6 which is spaced from the adjacent edge part of the pad and this edge part 6- is free of the pad so that the hand of the user can be placed into the pocket formed by the sheet 4.
As will be seen this sheet 4 is of considerable area so that it covers a considerable part of the hand, thereby thoroughly protecting the hand from heat of objects being picked up by the hand manipulatingthe pad or heat from a hot stove or the like which is being approached by the hand. An eyelet l is passed through the pad and a part of the sheet 4 adjacent an edge portion,l as shown in Figures 1 and 3, so that the pad can be hung upon a nail or the like by passing the eyelet over. the nail. This eyelet is so arranged that it Will hold the pad in position so that the hand can be readily placed in the pocket Without removing the padfrom the nail 'or other projection and then after the hand is placed in the pocket the pad can be moved by the hand to release it from the nail or projection.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention Will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement ofv the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described claimed as new is: v
A device for enabling one to pick up a hot object comprising a pad, a pocket forming sheet having a substantially V-shaped edge portion, means for connecting the remaining edge part of the sheet to edge parts of the pad, the V-shaped edge portion being free of the pad to form a mouth for the pocket and said V-shaped edge portion being spaced inwardly from the adjacent edge portion of the pad with the apex of the V forming the central portion of the mouth of the pocket and a hollow rivet passing through the pad and the sheet adjacent one end of the V-shaped edge portion, said rivet adapted to receive a projection on a wall for holding the pad in position where the hand can be placed in theV pocket without first removing the pad from the projection.
