UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD ALDOM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ToY CAP-EXPLODER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,972, dated Tune 6, 1882.
Application filed January 20, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD ALDOM, of 392 South Fourth street, in the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, and in the State ot' New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Toy Ball Cap-Exploder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention.
My invention relates to improvements in that class ot' toy cap-exploders which is so ex` tensively used by children iu celebrating the anniversary of the Day ot' Independence.
The object ot' my invention is to give the children a cheap and safe cap-exploder.
Figure l represents the ball after the cap has been exploded. Figi?. is a sectional view ot the cap-exploder. showing the slot cut in ball.
I construct the exploder as shown in Fig. 2.
A is the hammer. B is the spring. O is the rivet, and I) is the nipple upon which the cap is exploded. E is a hole, to which the string is attached.
The ball is made ot' Wood, papier-mache, metal, or other suitable material.
The cap can be exploded with or without the spring attached.
To use the invention7 I attach a string tothe Fig. 3 is a side vie\vbottom ot' the hammer, as shown in Fig. 1. By holding the string in one hand and having previously placed a cap in the place provided and cocked the hammer, you throw the ball from you, retaining yonr hold on the string. By the sudden jerk backward the hammer is relieved and the cap is exploded. It can also be used by two children in the following manner, viz: An extra string can be attached to the opposite side ot theball in the eye provided for it, as shown in Fig. 3, F. Each child taking an end, the exploder will then be in the center. By each pulling at the same time the cap is exploded. thereby rendering it a cheap, safe, and amusing toy.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent', is-
A ball with a slot cut half-Way through to the center, in combination with hammer A, pivoted in said slot, and springB, bearing upon the hammer, with astring attached to the lower part of hammer, atE, combined and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
