My invention relates to spring clip devices and aims to provide certain improvements therein. More particularly it relates to a spring clip de vice which is adapted to be anchored to a wall or the like and having an ornamental cap between which and one end of the clip an article such as a curtain tie-back, a hat or the like, is adapted to be securely held.

Among the objects of the invention are to provide a spring clip device which is simple in construction, easy to apply to a wall, door or other supporting member, which is effective in use and in which the spring serves both as the support for the ornamental cap and for normally holding the ornamental cap in article-securing engagement. A further object is to provide a device of the character set forth wherein the ornamental cap serves as the operating means for releasing an article held by the device.

The foregoing and other objects of my inven-` tion not specifically enumerated I accomplish by providing a spring clip device comprising a leafspring with means intermediate the ends thereof for detachably securing it to a support, said spring being of a form such that one end thereof supports an ornamental cap and normally holds it in cooperative engagement with the other end of the spring to provide the holding engagement for the article and wherein the application of pressure to the ornamental cap at its spring-supported end in a direction toward the supporting means will operate to release the holding engagement on the held article. The invention will be better understood from the detailed description which follows when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window showing the spring clip devices of my invention employed as curtain tie-back holding means.

Fig. 3 is a front elevation of my invention as rapplied to a hat holding means or the like.

Referring rst to Figs. l and 2 of the drawings. the spring clip device of my invention comprises a leaf-spring ID, a cap member II and securing means I2 for attaching the device to a window frame I3 or the like.

being secured to the `rear face `of the cap member II adjacent oneend or periphery thereof vby securing means such as tacks I'I. The spring is of a shape such that when connected to the cap member in the manner set forth, the opposite end or diametrically opposite peripheral portion of the cap member will frictionally engage the arm I4 inwardly of the end I6 and provide therewith holding means for an article such as a curtain tie-back I8 which engages around the folds of a curtain I9 hung in a conventional manner from. a bracket or rod (not shown).

The securing means I2 as herein shown is a wood screw preferably non-rotatively extending through an opening in the spring at substantially the apex of the V but it will be understood that any suitable securing means may be employed for this purpose.

The cap member II may be formed of any desirable material and in any ornamental design and, as herein shown, is of a character which will receive the tacks I1 to hold the cap member to the spring. Where the cap member is formed of metal. plastic or other material suitable well known means for securing such material to the spring may be employed.

In view of the relationship of the parts hereinbefore described it will be apparent that normally the unsecured end or peripheral portion of the cap II will be held in frictional engagement with the spring arm I4 due to the tension of the spring arm I5. Hence, when pressure is applied to the secured end of the cap in a direction toward the securing means I2 or window frame I 3, as indicated by the arrow 20 in Fig. 2, to move the cap member to the dot and dash position, the holding engagement provided between the cap and the spring arm I4 will be released so that the tie-back I8 may be simply and quickly removed from its curtain holding relation.

In the embodiment of my invention shown in Figs. 3 and 4 although the spring I 0a is of slightly different shape from that shown in Fig. 2, its securing means I2a and tacks Ila, as well as the relationship of the cap IIa to the spring are all precisely the same as in Fig. 2. By having the arm I 4a of the spring relatively long as compared to the arm I5a it will be appreciated that the device may readily serve as a means for holding the brim of a hat 22 or other device wherein the gripping portion is substantially inwardly from the edge of the device.

Although I have shown and described two embodiments of my invention and two specific applications thereof. it will be appreciated that the cooperating portions of the spring arm I4 and cap l I may assume a relationship other than that shown, and that other changes in the speciic details of construction and arrangement of parts may be resorted to within the range of mechanical skill without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.

What I claim is:

1. A spring clip devicecomprising a leaf-spring having a substantially flattened V-shaped portion with means at substantially the apex of the V-shaped portion for detachably securing the device to a supporting member, a cap attached to one arm of the V-shaped portion and extending across the other arm in overlying relation thereto and normally providing therewith clamping engagement means for holding an article. lthe n cap at its spring-attached end being adapted,
