Description

Patented May,16,1882.
sys. CROSS,
TICKET OASE.
(No Model.)
No. 258,196-f` l l l I l I n l l l l l1.
N. PETERS Phmo-Lnhagnpmn washingm. ILCA UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
lSAMUEL S. CROSS, OF BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO DANIEL E. CROSS, OF SAME PLACE.
TICKET-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,196, dated May 16, 1882.
Application filed February 17, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, SAMUEL S. CRoss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beverly, in the cuntyof Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Cases; and I do hereby declare that the same are fully described in the followingspeeiication and illustratcdin the accompanying drawings. l
This invention relates to improvements in portable ticket-cases for pocket use, and is adapted for holding temporarily in place railway, horse-car, or other `tickets of any kind or sizes, and in` such a mannerthat they may be readily detached from the case, if required, to be punched or delivered, and be as readily put back in the case, and for preventing them from being creased or otherwise injured when inserted into the case.
The invention is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 represents a front elevation of my improved ticket-case. Fig. 2 representsa vertical section, and Fig. 3 represents a cross-section.
Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.
The invention consists of the central dividing-partition and stiffener, a, made of pasteboard, leather-board, leather, or suitable material to impart proper stiii'ness to the case. On the two opposite sides of the partition et are arranged the covers b b, the latter being made of cloth, leather, rubber, or similar materials, which are firmly attached all around their outer edges to the continuous outer edge of thecentral partition and stiftener, a,by means of the metal binder o, as shown in the drawings. The said metal binder o overlaps the outer edges of the centr-a1 partition, a, and covers b b, and serves two purposes-namely,
(No model.)
to make a` inished metal edge all round the case, as Well as to impart additional strength 4 5 to the whole and to prevent it from being bent or broken. The covers b b are each provided with one or more slits, d d, through which the tickets e e are inserted, as shown in Figs. l and 2. The tickets e e, when put into the case, '5o are held between the central stitfener and divider, a, and one ofthe covers b b, as shown in Fig. 2, a portion of the ticket projecting outside of each cover, so that it may readily be removed when required to be punched or de1iv 55 ered. The central piece, a, serves two purposes-namely, as a stiffener to give strength to the case, and also to prevent the tickets on one side of the case from coming in contact and rubbing against the tickets on the oppo- 6o site side of the case. The upper end ot' the case is preferably made with a central cutaway portiomf, as shown in Fig. 1, so as to admit ot' an easy manipulation of theticket or tickets inserted through the uppermost slit in the cover or covers. This myinveution is very neat, light, and durable, occupies but verylittle space, and is particularly Well adapted for pocket use as a ticket-case to contain .railway or other tickets, which may be presented for inspection, punching, or delivery with great convenience.
What I wish to secure by Letters Patent, and claim, is-
The herein-described portable ticket-case, consisting of central stiffener and divider, a., covers b b, having each one or more slits, d d, and united tothe partition a by the continuous metal binderc, all arranged and combined substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 8o
In testimony whereofI have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
` SAMUEL S. CROSS. Witnesses:
