SMOKER'S APPLIANCE Filed Aug. 26, 1946 JL.%ZZiam Patented Oct. 23, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,572,415 SMOKERS APPLIANCE James L. Williams, Lamesa, Tex.
Application August 26, 1946, Serial No. 693,087
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a smokers appliance and aims to provide a casing in which a cigarette or cigar to be smoked, may be positioned, the device having openings to admit air to the body portion or casing, but at the same time prevent ashes and fire from falling from the burning cigar or cigarette.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character in the form of a casing, which may be readily and easily positioned over a cigar or cigarette holder, novel means being provided for securing the casing in place on the holder.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a smokers appliance constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates a cigar or cigarette holder with which the appliance is used. The appliance comprises a cylindrical body portion 6 which is formed with an opening I at one end thereof, to accommodate the holder 5. Arms 8 extend inwardly from the end 9 of the body portion 6, the outer ends of the arms being connected by means of the coil spring I0, which normally acts to urge the free nds of the arms 8 inwardly into frictional contact withthe cigar or cigarette being smoked. Openings II are formed in the cylindrical body portion 6 and admit air to the burning cigar or cigarette contained therein so that it may be smoked. The outer end of the body portion 6 is closed by means of the cap [2 which is positioned thereover, the cap being also formed with openings to permit air to enter the body portion, and smoke to exhaust therefrom.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a cylindrical body portion in which a cigar or cigarette may be smoked, the body portion having an ash receiver to prevent ashes and fire from falling from the burning cigar or cigarette during the smoking period.
In the construction of the device any desired material may be used, due consideration being given to the cost of production, since it is contemplated to construct a device of this character which may be sold at minimum cost.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A smokers appliance comprising a cylindrical body portion having an opening in one end thereof in which one end of a cigarette holder in which a cigarette is held is positioned, spring arms secured within the cylindrical body and attached to the end of the body portion adjacent to the opening in which the cigarette holder extends, the free ends of said spring arms extending into the body portion a substantial distance beyond said opening, a coiled spring secured to the free ends of the spring connecting said arms normally urging said spring arms into clamping relation with the cigarette supported in said holder, securing the cigarette in position against accidental displacement, and said cylindrical body portion having a plurality of air openings through which air enters the cylinder.
