To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE HULUDET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Im- -provemcnts in Cigarette-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to smokers articles, particularly to cigarette holders, and has for its object the provision ot a device in which a cigarette may be held whilel it is being smoked, the cigarette being at all times inclosed so as'to eliminate all danger caused by the dropping of ashes and sparks, the device' being particularly adapted for indoor use orin the vicinity of iniiammable material.

An important object is the provision of a cigare-tte holder of this character in which the cigarette will be positively held in spaced relation to the walls thereof so as to provide an ash receiving space entirely surrounding the cigarette.

A further object is .the provision of a device of this characterin which the cigarette is at all times entirely inclosed, the device being so formed that the cigarette maybe lighted without opening the inolosing receptacle.

Still another object is the provision of a device of this character in which one end is removable for insertion of the cigarette and the removal of the ashes, the removable end carrying a peculiarly constructed holding member engageable about the cigarette for properly positioning the cigarette within the device.

An additional object is the provisionv of a holder of this character which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive in manufacture, highly eiicient in use, durable in service and a general improvement of the art. Y

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction tofbe hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a longitudinal sectional View illustrating the preferred form of my invention.

Referring more particularly to the drawings and especially to Figs. 1 and 2, the numeral 10 designates the inclosing shell of my device which may be formed of sheet metal, wood, liber or any other suitable material and which has its outer end provided with a reduced extension 11. The shell 10 is provided throughout the major portion of its length with a chamber y1:?. which communicates to the other end of the shell with a reduced chamber 13 communicating with an opening 14 extending t0 the end Of the shell. The opening l-l is threaded as shown for engagement therein of a threaded eX- tension 15 on the end of an ordinary form of mouth piece IG-which may be formed of bone Celluloid, amber or other suitable materia In order that the outer end of the shell 10 maybe substantially closed, I provide a cap 17 which'is formed as a disk 18 having a peripherally extending flange 19 engaged upon the reduced extension 11 at the end of the shell. The disk 18 is provided with a plurality of perforations 19 through which air may enter the shell so as to promote combustion of the cigarette.

In order to provide means whereby a' cigarette` designated by the letter A may be properly positioned within the shell, I provide a pair of sprin clamping members 20 formed preferably o metal, such as wire, which are disposed longitudinally within the shell 10 and which are secured upon the .inner face of the disk 18 in any suitable manner as by soldering. The ends of the clamping members 2O are outwardly flared as shown at 2l to facilitate the insertion of a cigarette therebetween.

Referring to Figs. 3 and fl of the drawing in which I have shown a slightly modified form of the device, the numeral 22 designates a closure cap which is provided with a centrally depressed portion 23 having a central opening 24:. In thisform of the device, the cap 22 isv engaged upon the reduced extension 11 at the end of the shell 10 in exactly the 'same manner as in the preceding form.

In this instance however the .cigarette A is adapted to have its extreme end pass through. the central opening 21 and subcentral opening 24, the depressed portion 23 is provided with a plurality of perforations 26 whereby air may be admitted tothe interior of the shell 10. In this form, the spring clamping members 20 are soldered or otherwlse secured upon the depressed portion 23 of the cap. ,f

In the use of either form of the device, the cap 17 or 22 as the case may be is removed and the cigarette is inserted between the spring clamping members 20. The cigarette and the clamping member 20 are then passed into the interior of the shell 10 and the end of the cigarette engaged within the recess 13 while at the same time the cap is engaged upon the reduced extension 11 at the end of the shell. When the operator places the bit or mouth piece 16 in his mouth, and draws upon the devlce, the cigarette may be readily lighted by holding a match adjacent the closure cap. In view of the fact that air can enter through either the cap 11 or 22, as the case may be, the cigarette may burn freely and evenly until entirely consumed, after which the cap is removed and the ashes dumped out of the shell.

From the foregoing description and a, study of the' drawing it will be apparent that I have thus provided a very simple and inexpensive cigarette holder which will entirely inclose the cigarette while it is being consumed and which will effectively hold the ashes and sparks so that danger of lire from smoking near combustible materials will be prevented, the device being further advantageous in preventing the objectionable spilling ofashes within doors.

While I have shown and described thel preferred embodiment of my invention, it will, of course be readily understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit .of the invention nor the scope of the sub-joined claims.

What is claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising a hollow shell provided at .its inner end with a recess, a mouth piece. connected with one end of said shell and provided with a bore communicating with said recess, a cap detachably mounted upon the other end of said shell Vand provided with perforations, and a pair of spaced clamping ,members securedto said cap and extending longitudinally within said shell, said clamp ing members being adapted to engage a cigarette and said recess receiving the inner end of the cigarette.

A device of the character described comprising a hollow shell provided at onel end with a recess, a mouth piece, detachably connected with'one end of said shell and provided with a bore communicating with said recess, a flanged cap detachably engaged upon the other end of said shell and having its central portion depressed and provided with a relatively large central hole surrounded by an annular series of relatively small perforations, a pair of spaced clamping members secured upon the inner side of said depressed portion and extending longitudinally within said shell, and ascreen secured upon said cap and bridging said depressed portion, said clamping member belng'adapt'ed to engage a clgarette and said hole and said recess receiving the ends of the cigarette.
