Description

Feb. 13, 1951 J. SCHROFF SAFETY CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed Feb. 12, 1949 Patented Feb. 13, 1951 UNITED: STATS r ()FFHCE SAFETY CIGARETTE HGLDER Joseph Sehroff, New York, Y. Application February 12, 19%, SerialNo. 78,125
. 1: Claim; 7 i
This invention relates to a safety cigarette holder. I
It is an object of the present invention to" provide a cigarette holder which has a safety casing adapted to surround the entire cigarette whereby to prevent the cigarette ashes from dropping from the cigarette to cause a fire and also to protect the cigarette when it is placed on an ash tray or on a piece of furniture and to provide for a simple means for ejecting the cigarette from the covering and free of the main part of the holder when the cigarette has burned inwardly through the covering to leave only a stub within the holder.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a safety cigarette holder which will prevent the burning or catching on fire of tables, carpets and clothing, and thereby prevent persons from becoming burned, and prevent loss of life, as well as prevent great property damage that results from unwanted fires caused by smoking of cigarettes when not utilizing the present invention.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a cigarette holder with a protective covering thereon which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to assemble and operate, convenient to use, sturdy and rigid, compact and eificient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the combined cigarette holder and covering embodying; the features of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the device in use, portions of some of the elements of the device and a lit cigarette being shown in elevation.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view illustrating the manner in which the discharging member for the cigarette butt is extended to the end of the covering to discharge the cigarette.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the discharging member.
Fig. 5 is a collective and perspective view of the discharging member or device and of the covering.
Referring now to the figures, NJ represents a mouth piece having the usual central bore II.
This mouth piece has a recess l2 at the outer end thereof for receiving and retaining a covering member or tube I3 which is threaded at its outer 2. end as indicated at I4. This tube is sufficiently long and of such diameter as .to retain the entire cigarette, as indicated at I5.
Slidable within the tube i3 is a cigarette retaining device or member it having a discharging element, l1 slidable therethrough. This member is can be slid throughout the length of the cover [3 to the end thereof in the manner as illustrated in Fig. 3.
The covering l3 has a plurality of circumferentially spaced longitudinally extending slots l8 and on the member Hi there is a projection l9 which extends through one of these slots in order to prevent the rotation of the member I6 within the covering [3 and also to provide a handle by which the movement longitudinally through the covering E3, of the member [6 can be effected. Once the member I 8 has been moved to the outer end of the covering l3, the cigarette l5 can be disposed therein and upon moving the handle l9 along the covering l3 and inwardly toward the mouthpiece, the cigarette l 5 is taken into the covering l3. After this has been done, a cap 2| which is perforated, as indicated at 22, can be threaded onto the end of the covering or tube l3 to prevent the ashes from falling out the end of the tube.
Within the member It is the ejector I! which also has a depending handle, as indicated at 23, which can be grasped or worked with the thumb nail in the manner as shown in Fig. 4 to effect the ejecting of the cigarette stub from the member If; after the member with the stub has been moved to the end of the tube 13. This ejector I1 is perforated to permit the inward flow of smoke to the central bore ll of the mouth piece Ill. The member [6 has a slot 25 through wh ch the handle 23 of the ejector ll extends. This slot will prevent the rotation of the ejector I! within the member Hi.
r is a slid-able holder for the cigarette which can be moved in order to move the cigarette through the covering and wherein this holder has within the same an ejector which is adjusted relative to the holder to finally eject the cigarette from the holder.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
In combination, a cigarette mouth piece having a central bore therethrough, a covering tube tightly fitted upon the mouth piece and having an open outer end, a slidable cigarette holder slidable within the tube from one end thereof to the other and adapted to receive one end of a cigarette to bring it into close proximity to the mouth piece and to pull it through the tube inwardly, said covering tube having a longitudinally extending slot, said slidable holder having a handle projection extending downwardly through the slot and adapted to retain the holder against rotational displacement within the tube and to provide external means for the movement of the holder and a cigarette through the tube and an ejecting member carried by the slidable cigarette holder and axially adjustable therein to effect the ejection of a cigarette stub from the holder when the holder has been slid to the outer end of the covering tube, said holder having a longitudinall extending slot therein, said ejecting 4 member having a handle portion extending through the slot in the slidable holder and the longitudinally extending slot in the covering tube whereby to be accessible for operation with the handle projection of the holder exteriorly of the covering tube.
