Description
June 2, 1931. F. BOENIG ET AL SMOKERS MOUTHPIECE Filed May 13, 1929 .7 .AI- PC 4 Inventors E60 3 06 5607a fire war Attorney Patented June 2, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FRED BOENIG AN D GEORGE E. DRESSER, OF JAMAICA, NEW YORK BIOKEB'S MOUTHPIECE Application filed Kay 18,
This invention appertains to improvements in appliances for smokers, and more particularly to a novel mouthpiece for holding cigars or cigarettes.
Although the present device is especially, adapted for cigarettes, the same may be slightly modified to accommodate cigars without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a smokers mouthpiece which will in use prevent the dropping of ashes on the clothes of the user, or persons nearby, without in any material degree affecting the proper draftline through the mouth piece and cigarette.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a mouthpiece wherein means is rovided to prevent the burning of the users gers, when the cigarette is burning close to its butt end.
Still another salient object of the invention, is to provide an ash guard and spark arrester for smokers mouthpieces, which is of dual construction, to more efficiently arrest the assage of inflamed particles.
These and numerous other important objects of the invention will become more apparent to the reader after considering the invention as described and claimed hereinafter.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the novel mouthpiece.
Fig. 2 represents a fragmentary'longitudinal sectional view through the novel device.
Fig. 3 represents a cross sectional view of the guard taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it will be seen that the invention includes a body 5 tapering toward one end, which end is provided with the enlargement 6 for engagement by the users teeth. As is shown in Fig. 2, the bod is provided with a longitudinally exten ing smoker duct 7 and a pocket 8 at the end opposite from the enlargement 6. At the pocketed end of the body external threads 1929.' Serial No. 862,792.
are provided for engagement with the internal threads of the cylindrical fitting 9. The fitting 9 has a circumferentially extendmg shoulder 10 thereon and an annulus 11 coaxial with respect to the fitting 9 and of substantially the same diameter.
A pair of cylindrical guards 12 and 13, are provided, the guard 13 being of less diameter than the guard 12, and adapted to be enveloped by the larger guard 12. The guard 12, has one end secured to the periphery of the shoulder 10, while the adjacent end of the guard 13 is secured to the periphery of the annulus 11.
The remaining ends of the guards 12 and 13 are closed by a foraminous disk 14 of substantially the same material, of which the guards 12 and 13 are constructed. The disk 14 is secured to the end of the guard by soldering or some other suitable means or method.
The numeral 15 denotes a cigarette with its butt end engaged within the pocket 8 and extending outwardly within the inner guard 13. As the cigarette burns inwardly, the fitting 9 will obviously become warmer, until when the cigarette has burnt closely to its but end, the heating of the fitting 9 may become quite warm. Insulation, in the form of a sleeve 16 of fiber or some other suitable heat non-conductor is disposed in circumscrib ing positionon the cylindrical fitting 9 in the manner shown clearly in Fig. 2.
It will thus be seen that by unscrewing the body 5 from the fitting 9, a cigarette may be inserted or removed from the pocket 8. The double guard serves to efliciently arrest any inflamed particles of the cigarette, and while the foregoing description has been in definite terms, it is to be understood that changes may be made in the specific shape, size, and materials, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is In a cigarette holder, a tubular member having an external annular shoulder between the ends thereof, an outer reticulated tubular guard receiving said annular shoulder and secured to the periphery thereof, an inner reticulated guard within said outer guard and secured on said tubular member in advance of said annular shoulder, a mouth piece 5 detachably threaded into said tubular member and having means for supporting a cigarette, and a band of insulating material secured on said tubular member rearward of said1 annular shoulder and in contact therewit Er. testimony whereof we aflix our signaurea FRED BOENIG.
GEORGE H. DRESSER.
