IIMPROVEMENT IN THE NIPPLE .OF FIRE-ARMS.

Specification forming part of Letters Fatent No. 25,('i 64, dated October 4, 1859.

.To all whom it may concern.-

- Be it known that I, EDWARD MAY ARD, of the city of Washington, in the District of Golumbia, have invented anew and useful-Improvement in Fire-Arms; and I do hereby deciare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the acc'pmpanying drawings, mal ing apart of this specification.

Figure 1 is a side yiew, and Fig. 2 a top wiew, of the breech portion of a firearm which embodies the above -'mentioned improvement; and Fig. ,3is a side View, and

-Fig. 4 a section, of my said improvement'dein the abutment d of the breech pieice of a I firearm, and retain it in that position -by means of a nick-headed screw, c, which is inserted into the left-hand end of said perfo'ra tion and takes into the threads in the open end of the said tubular nipple-seat, as represented inthe drawings. This improyed manner of combining the cap-nipple with the breech-piece of a fire-arm enables a nipple to be tightened in itsposition by the aid of no other instrument than a pocket-knife or a piece of small coin, and the same simple article (one'of which isalmost'always to be found in every manspocket) enables a damaged nipple to be readilyremoved from its position anda perfect one to be inserted in its place; i i v g'WhatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters'Patent,'is-
