Description

E. BREY.
Gun-Lock.
Patented June 29, 1858.
N. PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPMER; WASHINGTON. D C
UNITED STATES E. BREY, OF PENNSBUBG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND J.
S. SWARTLEY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOUBLE-ACTlNG GUN-LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 20,757. dated June 29, 1858.
To. all whom it may concern: I
, Be it known that I, E. BREY, of Iennsbu-rg, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gun-Locks 5 and I do here by declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a top view. of the lock. Fig. 2 is an outside view of same. Fig. 3 is an inside view of same. Fig. 4 is a sectional. view on line a: m. Fig. 5 is a section on y 3 Similar characters of reference in the several figures denote the same part.
The improvement here considered is applicable to guns having two barrels placed one above the other. I
It consists in constructing the lock with a hammer capable of movement, as hereinafter to be described, so as to effect the discharge of either of the barrels, or of both in succession.
In the drawings, 1? is the lock-plate, T is the tumbler, and D is the dog. The hammer H is attached to the head of the tumbler by a pin, a, about which it is capable of moving. The amplitude of this movement is such that the hammer-head shall, in each of its extreme positions, be over the vent-tubes of the barrels. This is determined by the length of a pin, 0, passing through tongue I) of the hammer and piece 0, connecting the hammer with mainspring S. This pin 0 has a center swell, as shown in Fig. 5, which prevents the selfmovement of the hammer.
In operation the hammer is turned so as to bring its head opposite to the cap to be exploded, and the trigger pulled. After the discharge of one barrel, the hammer is moved to its opposite position, as seen in Fig. 2, in the act of cooking, when by drawing the trigger the other barrel is discharged.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I The swivel-hammer H, in combination with the center-swell pin 0 or its equivalent, con
structed, arranged, and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name before two subscribing witnesses.
ELIAS BREY.
