DOOR-BOLT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEwIs G. HOFFMAN, ol the village of IVaterford, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement on the Ordinary Door-Bolts now in Use, to be Made of Brass, Iron, or other Metal; and I do declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact` description ot' the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l, is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a working view of the improvement.

My improvement consists in applying a barrel to the center of the flat side of the common bolt (see letter A) and in the barrel placing a wheel, on which wheel is placed a key pin, a steady pin and a small lever or arm (see B). I then forni the bolt with a slot in its center, (see C) capable of receiving the lever, which by applying the key, runs the bolt out or in, as may be desired. In order to prevent the bolt from turning, thereby throwing the lever outof gear, I cut a suitable slot on the top of the 25,335, dated September 6, 1859*.

On the end of the bolt I place a thumb piece, fitted to a collar, (see E) which enables me, by the use of the fastening pin (see F) to open or close the bolt at pleasure. In order to make the bolt answer for a right or left handed door, I reverse the position of the bolt, and merely change LEWIS G. HOFFMAN.
