Description

C. FASOLDT.
Clock Escapement.
Y No.A 22,791. Patented Feb l, 1859.
UNITED STAIS PEENT OFFICE.
CHARLES FASOLDT, OF ROME, NEW YORK.
ESCAPEMENT FOR TIMEKEEPERS.
Speccaton of Letters Patent No. 22,791, dated February l, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES Ithxsonn'r, ot' Rome, Oneida county, `State ot `Sew York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lever-Escapenlentsg and I herebv declare that the following is a full and exact description ot' the improvement atoresaid, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specilication.
A is a gropelling and detent wheel connected.
B, B, B, is the balance wheel so drawn for the purpose of showing the dierent positions of the detent lever when in actual operation.
L is a straight detent lever having its center of motion C between and in a right line drawn from center to center ot the balance and escapement wheels.
H is a hook attached to the lever with the like center ot motion. One extremity oi' the lever terminates in a fork F vibrating` in the partial rotation ot' the balance wheel in a manner well understood. rl`he other extremitv of the lever has a peculiar form, such that a tooth of the escapement wheel may at stated periods rest against it and be readilv7 unlocked so as again to allow the rotation of the wheel.
In order to a better comprehension of the means I emplopT to produce a simple and perfect isochronal movement I will describe the operation having reference to the three different positions numbered l, Q and In Figure l, the lever will be seen in one limit of its movement with a tooth of the escapement wheel resting locked against its eX- tremity: next will succeed the reaction of the balance wheel and the impulse therefrom in the direction indicated blv the arrow dislodges the other extremityv of the lever and throws it in advance of the tooth it was just restrainingl so that it now takes the position exhibited in No. 2. ri`he lever is now moved in turn b'v the escapement wheel and is carried to the other limit ot its motion as shown in Fig. 'lhe detent hook at the center ot the lever here locks the escapement wheel a *aiting the reverse motion oi the balance wheel to return the opposite end of the lever to the position it occupied when the description commenced lhe simplicit)v and perfection ot my arrangement will thns be made apparent to all skilled in this branch. I detain the escapement wheel by its meeting the lever at stated periods so that the point of the tooth ot the wheel rests against the point or end of the lever and by a single impulse it is disengaged or unlocked and thrown in advance of the tooth when the lever is in turn moved by the wheel to its other limit so that the angular movement with reference to the escapement and detent wheel enables me to avail of the direct action through the constant power ot' the former wheel dispensing with all reverse action of the lever and materially diminishing` the friction thus rendering the movement less complicated and less liable to need repair or regulation.
`What I claim mv invention is*q rJ'fhe employment ot a straight lever and collateral hook in the position and form indicated and described.
CHARLES FSOLDT.
