JOSEPH R. PALMENBERG, OF NEIN' YORK, N. Y.
BRANCH HOLDER FOR BONNET-STANDS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 24,950, dated August 2, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH R. PALMEN- BERG of New York, in the county and State of bew York, have invented a new and Improved Branch Holder for Bonnet-Stands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure I represents a bonnet stand with my improved branch holder. Fig. II is a cross section of the branch holder and Fig. III a plan of the same.
A is a piece of wood fitting around the upright rod B. This wood is cas-ed with brass or other metal, n, and likewise covered at the top with metal, f, somewhat stronger than the metal on the sides, and provided with a flanch or lip, a, which passes over the metal casing, n, of the sides and secures the saine, at the same time strengthening the upper part.
This branch holder is secured upon the rod B through the set screw, s, in any desired position. The branches C, C, are in serted into said holder in the top part into holes, o, drilled through the metal and into the wooden part.
The object of this `improvement is to obtain suliicient strength with lightness and at a very small expense.
I am aware that plates with holes to receive the branches have been fastened in differentpositions on the rod B, and have likewise been made so as to slide upon said rod and fastened to the same by means of setscrew, but the great objection to this arrangement is, independent of the weight and great eX- pense, that after very little use, the holes wear too large, so as no more to hold the branches fast and steady, while if inserted into wood there is hardly any wear in the holes, and the branches will always be firm and steady, and the metal covering strengthens the wood and prevents the same breaking.
I am aware that wooden articles have been covered with metal and do not claim this generally.
Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- As a new article of manufacture a branch holder made and constructed in the manner substantially as described.
JOSEPH R. PALMENBERG'.
