Description

w. SHERWIN.
Corn Husker.
No; 33,369. Patented Sept 24, 1861 W mw which- UNITED STATES PATENT @EFIQE.
IVILLIAM SHERW'IN, OF SHELBURNE FALLS, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPF IOVEMENT IN HUSKlNG-PINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 33,369, dated September 24, 1861.
To all whom it may concern.-
I Be it known that I, WILLIAM SHERWIN, of Shelburne Falls, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful article of manufacture which I denominate a Concave IIusking-Pin; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in
Figure l is a front view. Fig. 2 is an edge view. Fig. 3 is a section on the line S S in Fig. 1, and Fig. I is a similar section on the line T T.
The form of the instrument is represented in the drawings. That portion of the instrument between the points A and B is a portion of a hollow cylinder with sides nearly straight and parallel and has a length about equal to six times its breadth. Below B the cross-section remains the same, but it is curved backward, and the end is roun ded with nearly a semicircle, as represented. Above A the width is gradually decreased toward the upper extremity G, which is of about onehalf the width of the portion A B and is rounded. This portion A C first curves backward from A and then forward to nearly the same plane, giving it .an ogee form, with a section gradually decreasing in curvature from A for about one-third the distance from A to C, where the section becomes straight,
as shown at Fig. 3. This form of the part A O is adapted to [it the ball of the thumb, as 1 shown in Fig. 2.
I construct my improved husking-pin by means of diesfrom thin sheet metal, the form shown not only causing it to fit the hand when other tough material may be introduced to confine the instrument to the second finger. Such string is not, however, absolutely necessary. I 1 Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A sheet-metal husking-pin constructed in the manner set forth and substantially of the form and possessing the properties herein described, as a new article of manufacture.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WM. SHERWIN Witnesses:
J OEL THAYER, L. .I. PHILLIPS.
