This invention relates to holders for memorandum pads and pencils and particularly to a form thereof which is susceptible of use in a variety of manners.

An object of the invention is to provide a holder for a memorandum pad which may be `used on a desk or table, or mounted on a wall or lother vertical surface or which may be attached over the edge of a supporting means such as the common sun-visor of a motor vehicle.

Another object of the invention is to provide a memo pad holder which is so constructed and arranged that the usual cardboard back of the memo pad is utilized as the means for holding the pad within the case.

Still anotherobject of the invention is to provide amemo pad holding case formed from plastic and having spring means incorporated therein adapted to serve as gripping members for securing the case over the edge of a sun visor or the like.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a memo pad holding case in which the gripping means for securing the case to a sunvisor or the like are so constructed and arranged as to remain within the confines of the case when not in use with resultant capacity of the case to be mounted on a wall or to be laid on a desk' or table.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a memo pad holding case formed from molded plastic and having incorporated therein a resilient pencil holding means also formed of plastic.

With the foregoing objects in view, together with such other objects and advantages as may subsequently appear, the invention resides in the parts, and in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts or their equivalents hereinafter described; reference being had to the accompanying drawings of a representative mode of execution of the invention, and in which drawings:

In the illustrated form of the invention, the case comprises a plastic molding I of generally rectangular outline, the upper end 2 being approximately the thickness of a memo pad and the case tapering to a thin edge 3 at the lower end. The outer side walls 4 and 5 are also curved toward the flat rear side E. The case is provided with a rectangular recess 'I bounded by an upper end wall 8, side walls 9 and I0, and a lower end wall II. A bottom cross member I2 extends across the recess 'I between the lower edges of the side walls 9, and I0; the lower face of said cross member being disposed. slightly within the rear edges of the side walls to provide a clearance recess I3 for the cardboard backing of a memo pad. The top and bottom edges are spaced from the end walls 8 and I I and the outer edge of the end wall 8 is provided with a ledge I4 adapted to overly the upper end of a memopad placed in the recess 'I While the end wall I I at its inner end is provided with a ledge portion I5 adapted to underly the backing B of a pad P which is rst inserted in the transverse slot I6 between the cross member I2 and the end wall 8 and then inserted through the transverse slot I'I between the adjacent edges of the cross member I2 and the ledge I5 as best shown in Fig. 6.

The outer face of the case I above the recess 'I is provided with a shallow transverse recess I8, in which a pencil may be held, as indicated in dotted lines, by the resilient curved tongue I9 of a clip element 28, the rectangular base portion 2I of which is located in a recess 22` formed in the outer face of the case and the base portion 2I is further provided with rearwardly extending locating studs 23, 23 adapted to be received in corresponding holes formed in the outer wall of the case at the back of the recess 22. The recess 22 is of such depth that when the base 2l is placed therein and lcemented in place, the outer face thereof will be iiush with the outer face of the case, thus contributing to the neat appearance of the assembly.

Formed on the face of the wall 8 opposite the recess 'I at the ends thereof are rectangular recesses 24, .24 in each of which is cemented the shanks 25, 25 of Va pair of resilent clip elements 26, 2B. `In the foregoing description, the use of terms ysuch as abovef below, front rear and the like have-been employed with respect to a case -mounted on aiwall or on la visor. It will be understood that these terms have been employed =to"facilitate description only and that no limitation vis to -be implied from-their use.

I'claim: `1. A holder for memorandum pads comprising la hollow `body member of rectangular outline having front and rear face portions and having internally disposed side --and end walls carried by saidfront face portion and extending toward said rear face portion; said walls being spaced inwardly from'the periphery of the body member and defining a pad receiving recess` therein, a back member connected only to saidAside walls and extending across `said recess and disposed inwardly of andparallelto said rear face portion, a ledge protruding from oneof saidpend walls `into said recess at'a point'substantially in the plane of said back member with the free end of said ledge combining with the adjacent edge of said back member to dene a narrow transverse slot, and a second ledge protruding into said recess from the other of said end walls at a point adjacent the front face of said body member.

A holder for memorandum pads :comprising a body member of rectangular outline-having an upper end of greater depth than the lower end "and having a pad receiving recess spaced inwardly from the periphery of the body member and including a back member constructed and arranged to v'hold apad having a relatively stiff backing element therein by interlocking engage-- ment with the backing element of said pad; said upper end'being 'hollow and adapted to serve as a housing fori-a resilient and extendible mounting. means for said holder.
