ROTATING PEDESTAL TABLE Filed March '7, 1949 I Y INVENTOR.
Arsene Harry Par Patented July 17, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ROTATING PEDESTAL TABLE Arsene Harry Payeur, Ann Arbor, Mich.
Application March '7, 1949, Serial No. 79,994
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to the oflicial class of furniture and more particularly rotatable pedestal tables.
The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a rotatable pedestal table adapted to be rotated so diners sitting around the same can easily serve themselves by bringing the dishes of food thereon directly in front of them.
A still further object of this invention resides in the particular construction of the rotatable pedestal of the table.
Aside from the aforesaid objects, this invention resides in the particular construction of the pivotal stud of the upper pedestal member.
With these and other objects in view this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of elements to be hereinafter more fully set forth in the specification, illustrated in the accompanied drawings and pointed out in the appended claim and, although this disclosure depicts my present conception of the invention, the right is reserved to resort to such departures therefrom as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application;
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the rotatable pedestal table.
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken approximately on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the upper pedestal member.
Fig. 5 is a similar view of the lower pedestal member.
In the present illustration of this invention the numeral 5 designates, in general, a rotatable pedestal table consisting of a round base 6 formed of plywood having an enlarged hole I in the center thereof and supporting a metal pedestal 3 formed of upper and lower hollow pedestal members 9 and ill. Said lower pedestal member in has its lower end flared outwardly to form an apertured flange ll through which screws l2 or the like are extended into the base to rigidly connect the same thereto while the upper pedestal member 9 has its upper end flared outwardly to form a flange l3 on the inner periphery of which is formed a plurality of apertured lugs M through which screws E5 or the like extend into the lower side of a round table top Informed of plywood to rigidly secure it to said upper member of the pedestal.
The aforesaid hollow upper and lower pedestal member have abutting outer ends I1 and I8 of lesser diameter than their flanged ends and are provided with inwardly extending upper and lower sleeves l9 and 20 of different lengths, the former of which is shorter than the latter mentioned one and has a pivotal stud 21 provided with a vertically serrated upper end 22 rigidly secured therein as by a press fit while the latter mentioned sleeve 23 has a smooth bore 23 therethrough to rotatably accommodate a smooth portion 24 of the stud and, in order to retain the upper pedestal member in rotatable position on the lower pedestal member, a washer 25 is loosely tightened against the lower sleeve of the lower pedestal member by a nut 26 threaded on the free lower end of said stud.
Although the base and table top are herein recited as being formed of round plywood, it is to be understood they may be constructed from any suitable material and in any desired shape capable of performing the salient features of this invention. Further the table, although primarily used as a rotatable pedestal dining table, will equally serve as a rotatable display pedestal table in stores or other places where articles thereon are out of reach of customers and may be brought in front of them by simply rotating the table top.
With thisinvention fully set forth, it is manifest that a rotatable pedestal table is provided whereby diners can easily serve themselves when initially assembled therearound and through the simplicity of construction thereof, the cost of manufacture will be reasonable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A rotatable pedestal table comprising a round base having an enlarged hole in its center, a hollow substantially conical lower pedestal member secured at its enlarged end to the base over the hole therein, an elongated and downwardly extending sleeve having a smooth bore formed on the upper end of the lower pedestal member, a hollow upper pedestal member of substantially inverted conical configuration rotatably resting on the upper end of the lower pedestal member, a sleeve of lesser length than the first mentioned sleeve formed on the lower end of the upper pedestal member and extending upwardly therefrom, an elongated cylindrical stud rigidly secured in the sleeve of the upper pedestal member and having a smooth lower portion rotatably extending through the smooth bore of the sleeve formed on the lower pedestal member, a washer on the lower end portion of the stud, a nut threaded on the lower end of the stud bearing against the washer and rotatably securing the 3 upper and lower pedestal members together, and Number a table top secured to the upper enlarged end 937,755 of the upper pedestal member. 971,371 ARSENE HARRY PAYEUR. 1,116,605 5 1,226,771 REFERENCES CITED 1,400,209
