ill llllIoGlIt-IMW SERVING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern Be. it known that l, Cnaunus A. Motlnaw, a citizen of the ll nited f lt ates of America, residing at McGrraw, in the county of Cortland and State of New fforlr, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Serving Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to rotary servers for dining tables, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide an ornamental rotary device for facilitating the service of such articles as salt, pepper, n1ustard, salads, bread, sugar, cream, coffee, water, cakes, etc, and to provide means whereby any person may readily bring to his hand the article which he desires.
Another object of the invention is to provide a rotary server which will not occupy much space upon the center of a table and in which the supporting element is disposed a suiiicient height from the table to permit articles to be placed underneath it.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a serving device which is especially adapted for dinner or luncheon service, for card parties, afternoon teas, at the club, on the lawn and on the veranda for a lunch and for holding punch bowls and glasses, etc, and which is ornamental as well as useful.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustraunl in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a side elevation of a serving device made in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a central vertical section through the same; Fig. 4t lS a central. vertical section taken through a slightly modified form of my invention; Fig. is a detailed view of the post and integral supporting element to which the rotary top is to be secured,
specification of Letters Patent.

to aid in holding the device lirnily in place against tipping or other movement. The base 1 provided with an upwardly projecting shank 1: having an internal bore or socket llhe upper end of the shank l may be substantially plain as shown at 6, and the socket 5 extends a coi'isidorable distance from the upper shoulder 6 to a point near the bottom of the base 1.
A rotary post is fitted in the socket 5 and comprises the reduced member '7' extending nearly the entire length of the soclret and provided at its upper end with. an integral supporting member l0, said supporting member being plain upon its upper face, and connected to this member by means of suitable cement 11 is a top 12 of circular form. The top 12 is preit'erably formed of plate glass and at its outer edge is ground as at 18, so that by applying the thumb or forefinger, the user may readily rotate the top 19. to bring to his hand any article supported on top of the server without soiling the top of the plate glass with a. linger mark.
[is shown in Fig. l, the base member l is provided with a hollow under portion 2 and with a surrounding supporting rim 3 having a felt or other i tional pad l se cured thereto. The member lbored V61 tically from the top of the shank 5 to the bottom and the shank 5 is also provided with a squared upper shoulder ti. The post 7 extends entirely through the base incur her 1 and is screw threaded at the lower end,to lit the threadedl wer end. of the bore of the shank. Loch nuts 9 are fitted to the lower end for holding the post firmly in position. The socket member 1 .0 as shown in Fig. at, is provided with a sociret lll in which the post is .li tted. The supporting element 12 is connected to the plr'ite glass top 1:2 by IH CtHlS of cement or other suitable adhesive nuiterial ill in. a manner similar to that already described in reference to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, and said top, the member 19 and the soclrot member 10" freely revolve on the post 7 FY0111 the foregoing, it will be obvious that a serving device made in accordance with my invention is coin mratively simple in construction, can be rotated freely without soiling the top of the some, to the desired position to serve any article resting upon the top; that the device is ornamental in appearance, does not obstruct the View I said socket, said post having an integral enacross the table and is sufi iciently high to erinit articles to rest on the table under nenth the outer edge of the top.
I claim:
A serving device for dining tables com prising a base having a hollowed out under portion and a frictional pad surrounding the bottom or" the some to prevent movement of the device, said base having a socket formed therein, a post fitted to rotate in larged supporting element at its upper end and a plane fiat plate glass disk connecting c i to sand element to rotate therewith.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signatture in presence of two witnesses.
